Michael looked completely confused, then said:
"I don't know."
"I don't know what's going on."
"After the subway shooting, I ran back home—and just as I got there, he grabbed me and dragged me back."
"I didn't even see the werewolves you're talking about."
Seeing Michael's utter cluelessness, Selene felt disappointed and motioned for Soren to step outside.
"Soren, let him go."
Soren asked in confusion:
"We lost quite a few people catching him, and now you want to just let him go?"
Selene replied:
"This guy clearly doesn't know anything. What use is he to us?"
"Let him go—but have someone tail him. Let's see what the werewolves are really after."
"This time, we don't interfere. We just watch where they take him."
"If we know their hideout, we can wipe them all out in one go."
"Aren't you curious where these werewolves are hiding?"
Hearing that, Soren had a sudden realization.
"I am curious where they're hiding. Everyone says werewolves are nearly extinct, but suddenly so many have appeared. The ones you ran into at the subway and the ones I found at his home…"
"If we add them up, it doesn't look like they're dying out at all. In fact, it seems like they're multiplying."
"We'll use this kid as bait. Set a trap and draw those filthy werewolves out."
Having reached an agreement, the two returned to the room.
"If you really don't know anything, then you can go home now."
Selene pulled out a business card and handed it to Michael.
"If you run into the werewolves again, call me."
Michael looked at the card and took it.
"I can go?"
Soren nodded from the side:
"You can get lost now."
After confirming that he was truly free, Michael left the castle without looking back.
Selene stood by the window, watching Michael walk safely away before turning her gaze back inside.
At that moment, Kraven walked in with Kahn. Seeing Selene and Soren, he said:
"I saw you let that guy go?"
Selene nodded.
"He was useless to keep around. Better to see where the werewolves take him."
"Soren's people will follow from the shadows."
Soren added:
"I placed a tracker on him. Even during the day, he won't be able to lose it."
Kraven nodded, then took a deep breath and looked at Selene.
"I owe you an apology. You were right—werewolves aren't extinct or hiding."
"They're better armed than ever. I'll order an investigation into the origin of their weapons."
"I suspect it won't be long before we find out if they're connected to the military or the government."
Selene was surprised. The power-hungry Kraven actually learned how to apologize?
"Since you've confirmed the werewolves are active, we should eliminate them."
Kraven shook his head and said:
"This is a sensitive time. The power transition is near—our elder is about to awaken."
"I can't send out people right now. In fact, even the Deathwalkers you sent out need to return to the castle to reinforce security."
Selene looked visibly disappointed, then said:
"My people have their own assignments. Once my father awakens, I'll explain everything to him."
To Selene, the Dragon Balls were far more important than a resurgence of werewolves. She had no intention of calling her people back.
Kahn stepped in to ease the tension and said:
"Using the weapons you recovered, I developed a new prototype. Take a look."
He handed Selene a sleek silver pistol.
Selene took it, loaded it, and fired at a nearby stone statue's head. The bullet hit—and a mercury-like liquid oozed from the impact.
Kahn gestured toward the magazine.
"Check the rounds."
Selene ejected the clip and looked, then exclaimed with delight:
"You mimicked the werewolves' bullets—silver nitrate!"
Kahn nodded.
"It's a truly lethal weapon now."
Selene added:
"They won't be able to dig these out of their bodies like they used to with our old bullets."
Kahn took back the gun and said:
"It goes straight into the bloodstream—nothing can be removed."
Selene handed the gun to Soren, who examined it and said:
"If I had this yesterday, that werewolf never would've escaped."
Kahn nodded:
"We'll start mass production immediately. Every Deathwalker will be equipped with one."
Kraven then looked at Selene and said:
"Selene, Elder Amelia will arrive soon. I want absolute calm within the castle's perimeter."
"Once the transfer of power is complete, we'll deal with the werewolves."
Without waiting for Selene's response, he left with Kahn.
Watching them leave, Soren turned to Selene and asked:
"Selene, do you really believe Lucian is dead like Kraven says?"
Selene was surprised by the question—especially since Soren was Kraven's most loyal lieutenant.
"You of all people should know Kraven's war stories by heart."
Soren nodded and said:
"I do. That's exactly why I supported him."
"After the war, Kraven became a hero. The younger generation of vampires practically grew up worshipping him."
"But now that the werewolves are back, I'm starting to doubt those stories…"
"After all, there's no actual evidence. No body—just a piece of skin and his word."
Selene scoffed, then said:
"I never believed Kraven's story. But my father does—and that's what really matters."
"Maybe you should look into it. Dig deeper through Michael."
"You might find something unexpected."
Soren frowned and asked:
"What about you? You don't seem very invested anymore."
"I heard that at first, you were very eager to lead the hunt yourself."
Selene smiled and said:
"I've got more important things to do. As for what exactly—you'll find out soon enough."
With that, she turned and left the room.
Her next task: set up a meeting with the dark web buyer and choose the perfect location for the deal.
