“…So you’re saying that the duchess arranged it so that he would live as if he were dead, instead of actually killing him,” Uriel finally spoke up.
A faint smile graced his lips as he agreed with Apollonia’s theory.
“That’s what I think happened,” Apollonia affirmed. “We don’t know why he wasn’t killed. Perhaps it was a rare act of mercy, or maybe there was another reason he couldn’t be killed. The important thing is how we can find him.”
Her gaze shifted to Evangelin, who had been quietly contemplating Apollonia’s speculations.
Evangelin raised her head at the attention.
“…I’ve tried everything I can think of,” Evangelin admitted, rubbing her chin with her left hand.
She displayed her frustration at not being able to locate him.
“I can’t think of anything except for torturing the duchess to get information,”
She glanced at Apollonia upon the mention of torture.
