Starwick
The walk back to the house was quiet. I didn't say a word and neither did she. Her response kept replaying in my head. 'She loves her mom. She'll never love you.' the demons in my head kept screeching. My heart hurt. It hurt really bad, like it had been cut open or something. I don't know what I was expecting her to say.
I didn't expect her to say she loves me but a part of me wanted to hear it. I suddenly felt like my life was over. She loved her mother, not me. At this stage, I expected she'd already house some sort of feelings towards me but evidently that wasn't the case. And here I was hitting rock bottom over and over and over for her. I could feel it. I'm in love with her. I knew it the moment our eyes met during her acid fall, but she doesn't feel the same.
The birthmark on her collar bone came to mind. 'She's cursed.' I said to myself. 'That's why she doesn't love me.' I could feel her throwing glances at me once in a while but I kept a straight face. "What's up with you?" she asked as we neared the porch. I didn't respond evidently angry. "Did I offend you?" She tried to probe further. I gave her a look that said, "Just enter the house."
She was pained by that, I could see it in her eyes but she didn't say anything. She opened the door and walked in, then slammed it shut before I could walk in. I smirked. Did she think the door would hit me? I walked through the door, into the living room to see her staring at her sobbing aunt.
We both didn't say a word and just watched. Finally, the woman spoke. "Your uncle,..." she croaked. "...he died this morning." Scarlett raised her brow, then asked, "How did he die?" The woman responded, "His brakes,... he was speeding and when he tried to slow down,... the brakes didn't work." "Is that so? Well you should be happy. Didn't you want him gone so you could continue your love relationship with the dog we call a neighbor next door?"
I whistled, then whispered, "Low blow." The woman's faced reddened with embarrassment and anger. "Scarlett Livana Muldoon!" "Gosh, the man's so poor in bed his wife had to resort to sleeping with his 'friend' next door. Pathetic. Both of you. Really." Scarlett said.
"I'm going to deal with you!" her aunt growled. "And why do you look the way you do? Why do you look like her." "That's cause I am her. Scarlett. Is. Back. And I dare you to do your worst." "Trust me. I will." her aunt growled back. Without another word, Scarlett walked upstairs, heading to her room. As I followed behind her, I saw the woman pick up the phone to place a call.
I looked over to Scarlett, she had seen it too, from the corner of her eye. I watched as her body stiffened for a few seconds before she continued to head to her room. "Who is she calling?" I asked once we were in the room. "Oh so you talk,... nice. I thought your demons got you tongue tied." she said, every word dripping with sarcasm. My blood boiled. I pushed her unto the bed and pinned her arms above her head. "Listen!" I growled. "What?! You gonna kill me?!"
