The news that a five-ring Soul King and one-word battle armor master had been eliminated quickly spread throughout the entire arena, but what frustrated everyone was that the young man who had created this miracle had long vanished. Only a few knew that his contestant number was 250.
"That kid... why do I feel like I've seen him somewhere before?"
Aside from Gu You, the rest of the Shrek team all easily passed the first round of the individual matches, except for Xu Lizhi, who hadn't entered the one-on-one. The others encountered relatively weak opponents.
The first round of the individual competition in the All-Continent Advanced Youth Soul Master Elite Tournament took a full three days to complete. As with all contests, there were both winners and losers. The Star Luo Empire's officials displayed powerful organizational skills. Though the capital was flooded with people, everything was managed in perfect order, and no chaos broke out due to the scale of the tournament.
After the first round of individual matches ended, the first rounds of the two-man team battle, group battle, and mecha battle began in sequence.
Compared to the individual competition, the number of contestants and teams for the other three types of matches was significantly smaller. According to the host's arrangement, each day would feature one event's first round. Once enough contestants were eliminated, multiple events would run on the same day.
Gu You didn't enter the two-on-two battle.
On the morning of the third day, Gu You and seven others left the hotel together to head to the competition venue. Their teacher Wu Zhangkong did not come with them but had gone ahead to the arena, where the officials had arranged a special observation platform for Shrek Academy.
Because the first round of individual matches had been spread over three days, Wu Zhangkong had only watched Gu You's match and hadn't paid much attention to the others.
Now that the two-on-two battles were starting, with three Shrek teams participating, he naturally wanted to observe the students' performance. That said, he still felt a little regret—Gu You and Gu Yue, the two students he valued most, weren't competing.
Even though Gu You wasn't competing, he could still observe.
Sitting in Shrek's dedicated viewing area, Gu You was awed by the vastness of the central arena.
The contestants had a designated waiting zone. When Gu You looked over at it, he chuckled softly.
'Really, Star Luo officials… there aren't enough seats in the waiting area.'
Indeed, the area wasn't big enough. Because of the tight space, it was overly crowded. Many soul masters had to stand and squeeze in.
Most of the contestants looked to be over eighteen. While this was slightly unfair to younger contestants, the official rule was simply "under twenty."
Some contestants were visibly excited and itching to fight. Others sat calmly, eyes closed, preserving their energy.
Judging by their appearance and demeanor alone, one could roughly guess each contestant's strength level.
The field for the two-on-two matches was larger than the one-on-one field. Inside Star Luo Grand Stadium, fifteen matches could run at the same time.
Thus, when calling numbers, they were grouped in sets of fifteen. Contestants looked for their own position and opponents on the large soul-screen display.
"No intentionally lethal blows. No use of mechas. If one side admits defeat, the other must cease all attacks. Once I determine the match is decided, I will end it." The referee was repeating the rules. Compared to similar competitions in the Douluo Federation, the Star Luo Empire's rules were clearly more lenient. This allowed participants to unleash more of their power, but it also greatly increased the danger.
Gu You sat silently, listening to the rules.
'Today is just for watching, but it's still boring…'
"Gu You!"
Gu You was in the middle of cultivating out of boredom. The two-on-two matches were dragging on. He frowned and opened his eyes at the sharp voice.
Turning to look, he saw none other than the princess of the Star Luo Empire—Dai Yun'er.
'How did she even get into Shrek's exclusive viewing area?' Gu You was puzzled. 'There are teachers here. Even if she has the right to enter, doesn't this still hurt the dignity of the royal family?'
Then he noticed someone standing beside her.
A tall, handsome young man.
Seeing Gu You, who looked even younger than he expected, Dai Yueyan's eyes lit up.
'This feeling… it's perfect.'
He gave his sister a curious glance.
'No wonder she's always butting heads with this guy. He really does have a certain charm. That flawless appearance, and he's from Shrek Academy? No wonder she's taken an interest.'
"Princess, to what do I owe the honor? And shouldn't someone of royal blood refrain from shouting in public?" Gu You smiled faintly.
Dai Yun'er snorted. "What's wrong with that? I'm just an ordinary citizen right now, not a royal. I didn't even show up here as a princess."
"Then what does the 'ordinary citizen' want with me?" Gu You asked lazily.
Dai Yun'er said, "Gu You, dare to make a bet with me? I looked into your background. I heard your martial soul is of the dragon class."
"Buzz off." Gu You rolled his eyes.
"You—!" Dai Yun'er was about to explode. She felt like she'd just punched a cloud—no resistance, no satisfaction.
Dai Yueyan's smile deepened. 'This kid is sharp. No wonder Yun'er keeps getting flustered around him. He's fun.'
"Gu You, stop right there!" Dai Yun'er charged forward, reaching for his arm.
Gu You shifted slightly, avoiding her grasp. "A man and a woman touching in public? That's really not proper."
"Gu You, I seriously want to strangle you!" Dai Yun'er gritted her teeth.
"Heh, but you don't have the strength."
"I'm done with you!" Dai Yun'er turned to her brother. "Fourth Brother, look at him! He's impossible. Help me teach him a lesson!"
Dai Yueyan walked forward with a helpless look, his eyes calm as he studied Gu You. A subtle pressure radiated from his body.
"Hello. I'm Dai Yueyan." He gave a plain introduction, no titles.
"So the princess ran home to complain. What can I do for you? Though, I don't believe I did anything wrong to her." Gu You smiled, unbothered.
Dai Yueyan's heart stirred slightly.
'Under my pressure, and he's completely unaffected? This kid…'
He had heard of him. This young prodigy from the Federation—rumor had it he had done something rather impressive.
"Hello. My sister means no harm. She simply has great admiration for Shrek…"
