"You're oversimplifying everything."
"Oversimplifying…?"
"Look at that gloomy face of yours. Sure, technology is great, but don't forget what our world's fundamental energy source is. It's soul power! As long as soul power exists, technology will never be the dominant force. But I won't deny, the fusion of technology and soul power is what defines this era best."
"Aren't we getting off topic? Weren't we out to have fun?" Gu Yue blinked.
"You're right." Gu You nodded.
"Move it." A low, vicious voice rang out suddenly.
"B-Big brothers, I didn't mean to. Please, let me go."
Gu You and Gu Yue looked up. A thin, middle-aged man had somehow provoked a group of four burly men and was surrounded.
Smack!
"Aah!" The middle-aged man cried out as one of the men slapped him hard across the face.
"Get lost!" one of them said with disgust.
"Y-Yes!" The man fled in a panic.
Gu Yue frowned. "I thought the people of Douluo Continent had questionable manners already, but the people of Star Luo seem to be even worse."
Gu You nodded in agreement.
"What did you say?" One of the thugs had apparently overheard and started approaching.
All four turned toward them, their aggression obvious.
Gu You instinctively stepped in front of Gu Yue.
"Kid, get out of the way!" The lead man barked, stepping up.
"What if I don't?"
"Oh? Been a while since someone had the guts."
Gu You let out a low snort. A terrifying pressure radiated from him.
So heavy... That was the first thought to flash across the thug's mind. His legs buckled involuntarily.
Thud!
The lead man dropped to his knees, followed quickly by the others.
"Who's bold enough to cause trouble?"
From a nearby shop stepped out a young girl.
Unlike the brutish appearance of the thugs, she was petite, her figure graceful in a pale yellow dress that hugged her curves. She looked around fifteen or sixteen, with delicate features and flowing hair.
"You're their boss, huh? Your dogs are biting people." Gu You said coldly.
The girl frowned. She might have realized her people were at fault, but she didn't appreciate Gu You's tone.
"You little brat!" The kneeling thug tried to speak up again, but she cut him off.
"Enough! Stop causing trouble!" the yellow-dressed girl ordered sharply.
The four thugs gave Gu You a few hateful glances but ultimately backed down.
Gu You glanced at the girl again, just as her gaze met his. Their eyes locked for a moment.
She seemed stunned, then offered him a soft smile and nodded.
Gu You didn't dwell on it. He turned and took Gu Yue's hand, walking away.
Gu Yue shot a cold glance at the thugs, her eyes flashing dangerously.
"Don't waste energy on barking dogs," Gu You whispered when he sensed her killing intent.
…
Three days later.
'The Star Luo Empire really is backward,' Gu You thought.
He figured only by living here a while could one appreciate the Federation's true strength.
Even something as basic as an amusement park only existed in the capital city—and it was a low-grade version at best.
"Tonight, we'll get to see the Emperor of the Star Luo Federation." Gu You found a suit that fit decently.
As dusk approached, luxury convoy vehicles pulled up outside the Star Luo Grand Hotel to receive the Douluo Continent delegation.
Shrek Academy's group followed formalities. Cai Yue'er was the top guest, while Gu You joined Wu Zhangkong and the rest of the team.
The Star Luo Imperial Palace stood at the heart of the city. It was said to be modeled exactly after their ancient palace back on the Douluo Continent. The imperial family bore the surname Dai. Their most legendary ancestor was none other than the Spirit Ice Douluo, Huo Forgetself.
Huo Forgetself's real name was Dai Yuehao, a direct royal descendant of the Dai clan, which had ruled Star Luo since antiquity. Though the throne was briefly relinquished in ancient times, the Dai family reclaimed it during Huo Yuhao's rise. Thanks to his prestige, the Federation didn't wipe out the Star Luo Empire when they had the chance, granting them a migration opportunity instead.
Of course, the migration came at a heavy price. Even if the Star Luo Empire joined forces with the distant Heaven Dou Federation, they still couldn't match the Federation's strength on the Douluo Continent.
The sound of grand ceremonial trumpets echoed. A formal imperial reception began before the palace.
A red carpet stretched out from the inner halls of the palace. The Douluo delegation was led by a Federation vice-chairman and several senior officials, along with Cai Yue'er and others.
Gu You stood farther back. The majestic music made him drowsy.
BOOM!
"Shit!"
Gu You jolted awake. It was the ceremonial cannon fire.
"Don't worry, go back to sleep if you want," Gu Yue teased, stifling a laugh.
Gu You glared at her.
The ceremony hit its climax with round after round of cannon fire. Gu You peeked through the crowd and saw a man in regal robes and golden crown handing something to the Federation vice-chairman—likely the official state letter.
'Hmm, Cai Yue'er is there too.'
"Hey, isn't that the girl from the other day?" Gu Yue suddenly exclaimed.
Gu You followed her gaze and saw a familiar figure in courtly dress standing behind the Emperor. It was the same yellow-dressed girl they'd met on the street three days ago.
"So she's someone important after all," Gu You said with a half-smile.
The grand hall was crowded and lively. Both sides of the hall had counters of unknown purpose. The place felt somewhat like the Blacksmith Association back on the Douluo Continent.
Gu You wandered around, failing to find anything of interest, and soon dozed off again.
"Wake up, wake up!"
"Mm?"
'Who is it?'
Gu You opened his eyes sharply.
"You can't find me, you can't find me," came a soft, teasing voice.
'Oh, come on…'
Using his spiritual perception, Gu You looked up toward the stage and spotted the girl in yellow.
'Great, I've been spotted,' she seemed to realize she was caught and offered an awkward smile.
'You're so dead later,' Gu You smirked to himself.
