Chapter 41 - Chapter 41: New Era Youth

Soul… end…

"Haha, even if my divine soul is utterly destroyed, I will never let you all have an easy time."

Gu You's head suddenly throbbed with unbearable pain, as if someone were stabbing directly into his mind. That black light was no ordinary energy — it was woven together from divine power itself. Even his unique power of destruction, without the backing of divine strength, was powerless against it. The oppressive force wrapped around his consciousness, threatening to crush him.

Suppress!

Yun Ming, the Sky Piercing Douluo, raised his Sky Piercing Spear. His aura, which had been raging just moments ago, suddenly began to draw inward, pulling tighter and tighter around him. With a gentle tap of his foot, white energy rippled outward in rings, expanding with a slow but unstoppable force. As the white radiance surged, the suffocating black light was pushed back, dispersing like smoke before the wind. The so-called evil curse evaporated completely, leaving no trace behind.

"Impossible! You…" Yue Zi's voice trembled faintly, as if realizing something at the last moment. "How could… how could you possibly do this?"

And then — silence. The voice disappeared entirely, sinking into eternal sleep within Qian Yu's body.

Inside Gu You's mind, an exasperated voice rang out.

'What just happened? My whole mind went black! I was almost scared to death.' Tie Hanhan's grumbling tone echoed loudly.

'Come out and see for yourself. There's someone you need to meet, and I need to explain a few things to you.'

"Oh!" Tie Hanhan chirped.

A brilliant red soul ring rose beside Gu You, glowing like molten metal. A petite Ice Emperor Scorpion emerged from the ring, her delicate body shimmering with frosty blue light. She cautiously surveyed her surroundings, her antennae twitching nervously. But when her gaze fell on Yun Ming, she froze — and in the next instant, she bolted behind Gu You, trembling.

What had she seen? Nine red soul rings — nine! Even if she offered up her life, it wouldn't be enough to compensate for one mistake before such a being.

'What are you scared of! That's Uncle Yun. Besides, his soul rings are already full — why would he care about you?' Gu You gave Tie Hanhan a scornful side glance, his tone mocking.

'I… I'm obviously not afraid. It's just… the aura from those nine soul rings makes me uneasy.' Tie Hanhan tried to deflect, her voice shaky but defensive.

"Ice Emperor Scorpion? Ultimate ice attribute. You've chosen an excellent spirit soul," Yun Ming commented, his deep gaze softening slightly as he retracted his overwhelming aura, observing Tie Hanhan with curiosity.

"After this breakthrough, is the energy inside you stable?" Yun Ming asked, turning to Gu You with a measured tone.

"Absolutely solid! I've uncovered a lot of secrets about myself this time." Gu You thumped his chest confidently, his grin wide.

As he spoke, Gu You shifted, lifting Qian Yu's body carefully onto his back.

"Let's find a place to bury her. We can't just leave her body lying out here in the wild, can we?"

Yun Ming nodded silently, and with a flash, the two of them vanished from the spot, leaving only a faint ripple in the air where they'd stood.

"Sky Piercing Douluo, sir." Qiong Shiyu raised his hand in a sharp military salute.

The general's sharp eyes swept over Gu You and Yun Ming, standing shoulder to shoulder like equals. In that instant, many scattered pieces fell into place in his mind — yet despite the sudden clarity, one question still burned in his chest. Why hadn't Sky Piercing Douluo acted earlier? If he had, maybe a few more of his comrades would have survived the ordeal.

But what the general didn't know was that Yun Ming had indeed tried to act. Each time he attempted to release his vast soul power, however, an unknown aura pressed down upon him, forcefully suppressing his actions.

"This was a major incident. The Federation is paying close attention. The Extreme North has been left unexplored for years — partly due to deliberate preservation efforts tied to global warming. But that deliberate choice has, over time, turned it into a lawless gathering place for criminals. Even some Federation officials have ended up entangled in the shadows here. The Northern Legion is a division of the Federation's North Sea Corps; its significance is enormous. This time, you can't be blamed — even I was caught off guard," Yun Ming said softly, pressing a hand to his temple as if easing a headache.

"Sir, you're too humble. A mistake is a mistake. We failed to protect the people, and no excuse changes that," Qiong Shiyu replied with a bitter smile, his weathered face showing the weight of responsibility.

Gu You stood nearby, half-dazed. 'Why do I feel like I can't follow this conversation? Every sentence seems loaded with hidden meaning.'

Qiong Shiyu turned to look at Gu You. "I assume this is your disciple…"

"He's my godson," Yun Ming said calmly, his tone flat.

Ah?

"I see." Qiong Shiyu turned to Gu You, his voice warming slightly. "Kid, on behalf of the legion, I sincerely thank you for your bravery today. If you hadn't bought us enough time, even the regiment we sent in might have been wiped out. I would be honored to take a photo with you — would you allow it?"

Gu You flicked a glance toward Yun Ming. Yun Ming's eyes met his calmly, signaling that it was perfectly fine.

"Come on! You're about to become famous…" Yun Ming chuckled.

"Damn it! You brat, don't you know how to respect your elders…" Gu You complained, yet despite his words, he casually threw an arm around the elderly general's shoulders, laughing as if they were old friends — utterly ignoring the stares of the surrounding crowd.

Desolation. Pure desolation. The blast from the level-eight soul tool bomb had left behind a crater a thousand meters wide. Even when magnified on satellite images, it blazed like a scar on the earth's surface. For five kilometers around, not a single trace of snow remained. The air was still bitterly cold, tinged with a faint acrid smell that bit at the nose. This was no ordinary emptiness — it was the kind of lifeless desolation that chilled the heart.

In the distance, a strange willow tree stood tall and proud, its branches glowing faintly with life energy. Beneath it, a small, neatly shaped mound of earth.

This was Qian Yu's grave. Gu You had chosen not to bring her body back. Instead, he had carefully prepared a resting place here, ensuring she could sleep in peace.

Why do it this way? Because Gu You believed — no, he felt it deep in his bones — that the child's mother was here, too.

Meanwhile, on the Federation's side, public announcements had been issued. Online, on the streets, posters had been plastered everywhere, calling for information on the missing. Everyone assumed the kidnapped victims' bodies had been vaporized in the explosion, reduced to ash. No one came forward to claim them. And even if they did — what would be the point? There were no remains, no graves, nothing to visit, just emptiness.

But there was something Gu You seemed to have overlooked. The Plane's Master — the supreme will of the Douluo Plane — could resurrect people. Even if they lacked souls, even if only the faintest wisp of aura remained, it was enough. Of course, doing so required a staggering amount of planar energy.

In the original story, after the Douluo Plane devoured the Abyss Plane, its energy surged dramatically. It was then that Tang Hao, once thought gone, had reappeared, playing the unlikely hero by reviving many who had fallen.

Now, a faint golden light shot down from the heavens, scattering softly around Qian Yu's grave, shimmering faintly against the cold earth.

Inside the inner chamber of the Shrek Golden Tree.

Long Yueye watched quietly as the energy of the golden tree gradually condensed into human form. Her brows furrowed slightly. "Did something happen?"

"Yes." The energy condensed into the figure of an elderly man, his form flickering faintly. "The Plane's Master has made a move. I don't know why, but the amount of energy used was enormous. I could feel the soul power fluctuations across the entire Douluo Star drop by one percent."

One percent?!

Long Yueye's expression changed drastically. That was no small matter — it meant that the cultivation speed of soul masters across the entire world had dropped by a full percentage point. That Plane's Master — always causing mischief. The last time, the so-called chosen Child of Fate had ended up becoming an evil soul master, and it had taken the combined efforts of several Federation Limit Douluo to finally strike him down.

"Sigh… A new great era is coming. My energy will run dry someday, too. I hope the true chosen one appears soon…" The old man's form gradually dissolved, fading into pure energy and dispersing.

Chosen one.

Long Yueye murmured the words softly a few times, her eyes shadowed with thought. It was time for her to go out, hold a small inner court meeting, and report on the academy's plans going forward. Because of her old injuries, she had long been assigned to this place, where the life energy was richest, to quietly recover.

But even here, there were things stirring that could not be ignored.

Last night, a major headline lit up the news across Eastsea City: a New Era Model Youth — and not just in Eastsea, but in almost every city, the boy's image had appeared in the headlines.

A photo flashed on screens everywhere, showing a young boy holding a banner that read:

"Most Beautiful New Era Youth"

Beside him stood General Qiong Shiyu, smiling broadly, his hand resting proudly on Gu You's shoulder.

"What… what is this?" Leng Yaozhu stared at the photo of Gu You, unable to hold back a laugh. His expression — so awkward, so speechless — who would have thought it could end up so hilariously uncomfortable?

Even Gu You himself hadn't expected it. He had never imagined that he would become such an awkward, unwilling celebrity. It was, frankly, the most humiliating moment of his life!!
