Chapter 110: Still Pretty Handsome with Eyes Closed
"So that's how it is!" Looking at Yurikawa Hana's face, which showed a sudden realization and a carefree expression, Yotsuya Miko's heart was breaking inside.
She was the one who made the bento, and she was the one pursuing Hikigaya. So why...
Why did Hana so easily do that kind of thing? And act like it was nothing. That was an indirect kiss!
Rounding it off, it was practically a direct kiss between the two. Doesn't Yurikawa Hana have a boyfriend?! Why does she not care at all about something like this?!
"You're not bothered at all?" Seeing Hana's "Oh, I get it now" expression, Yotsuya Miko's words suddenly turned into deep confusion. Could it be that Hana was just slow to react and hadn't even realized what she'd done?
"It's just an indirect kiss. Miko and I do this all the time, so what's the big deal..." Yurikawa Hana really couldn't understand why Yotsuya was making such a fuss. Don't they often share food anyway?
"This is different." Seeing Hana completely missing the point, Yotsuya put her hands on Hana's shoulders and shook her back and forth.
"But I don't see the difference. And wasting food is the real problem, right?" Well then.
Hearing Hana's words, Yotsuya completely gave up trying to explain the difference between indirect kisses among same-sex friends and between opposite sexes. After all, Hana's main concern was still food...
"You're going to have trouble with food later on!" Muttering this under her breath, relieved, Yotsuya took Hana's hand and went back to Hikigaya Hachiman's side.
After sitting down, Yotsuya finally noticed that during the short time she was chatting with Hana, Hikigaya had fallen asleep!
"Miko..." Seeing Hikigaya asleep on the rooftop, Hana wanted to ask if Yotsuya would wake him up, but Yotsuya waved her off.
"Shh, keep your voice down..." Making a "quiet" gesture, Yotsuya signaled Hana to lower her voice as she sat down.
"Sleeping on the rooftop like this makes it easy to catch a cold, you know!" Hana whispered, leaning close to Yotsuya's ear to warn her.
Obviously, Hana hadn't missed the tired look on Hikigaya's face earlier but was just worried he'd get sick sleeping in a place like this.
"It's fine." But Yotsuya shook her head, indicating Hana didn't need to worry about that.
After all, she had chosen this corner of the rooftop specifically to avoid the wind. It was impossible for Hikigaya to get sick just from a short nap here.
Understanding Hikigaya would be okay, Hana immediately stopped worrying about him. She picked up her lunch box again and resumed eating.
Nearby, Yotsuya quietly squatted in front of Hikigaya, staring blankly at his sleeping face.
"What are you looking at, Miko?" After a while, Hana finished eating and saw Yotsuya still squatting by Hikigaya. Curious, she leaned in closer.
"Huh, he actually looks pretty handsome when his eyes are closed~" Seeing Hikigaya with his eyes shut, Hana's eyes widened.
To make sure she wasn't imagining things, she rubbed her eyes deliberately. But what she saw was indeed a very handsome face.
At least, to Hana, Hikigaya scored an 8 out of 10 when asleep.
"I see. No wonder Miko, you liked him. So Hikigaya is a hidden handsome guy?"
"No!" Yotsuya shook her head and denied Hana's guess.
When she first started liking Hikigaya, she hadn't thought about his looks at all. After all, this was the first time she had ever seen Hikigaya's sleeping face.
"Then why did you like him back then?" Hearing Yotsuya's answer, Hana suddenly became curious about why Yotsuya had liked Hikigaya in the first place. Surely it wasn't just because he saved her once?
"Hmm... I guess it was a feeling?"
Yotsuya wasn't even sure herself how she had come to like Hikigaya. Maybe at first, she got close to him just to get his protection so the evil spirits would stop bothering her. But as they spent more time together, before she knew it, she had fallen for him.
"Just a feeling?" Yotsuya's answer disappointed Hana. She thought it was some classic hero-save-beauty story, but it was just a vague feeling...
"So now we're just going to stay here with him until lunch break ends?"
Plopping down on the ground, Hana rubbed her legs that had gone numb from kneeling so long, then looked at Yotsuya still squatting by Hikigaya.
"Miko, why are you still squatting?"
"My legs went numb..."
.
.
.
The lunch break bell rang. Hikigaya suddenly opened his eyes.
"Did I fall asleep?" Seeing the two sitting shoulder-to-shoulder asleep in front of him, Hikigaya stood up, stretched his stiff body, and patted Yotsuya's shoulder.
"Hm?" Just waking up, Yotsuya's eyes still held a trace of confusion. But the cold rooftop breeze blew over her and instantly sobered her up.
"Hana, get up! Class has started!"
Yotsuya shook Hana's face, trying to wake her up. But Hana, still fast asleep, only furrowed her brow and then, like a koala, clung to Yotsuya and went back to deep sleep.
[......] The rooftop fell into sudden silence. Yotsuya looked at Hana lying on her, half annoyed, half amused, full of helplessness.
"Can't be helped. Hikigaya, you go to class by yourself..." Sighing, Yotsuya gave up and let Hikigaya leave first.
"What about you two?" Seeing Yotsuya still sitting on the ground without moving, Hikigaya asked.
"Of course we're skipping class until she wakes up."
Looking down at Hana who was hugging her waist and muttering "I really can't eat anymore" in her sleep, Yotsuya told Hikigaya not to worry about them.
They still had some skips left this semester; missing one class occasionally was no big deal.
