Chapter 57 - Ch. 57 - The Forbidden Triangle of Death!

"I'll introduce you two properly this time. Alya, this is my new student, Sawako. Sawako, this is my first student and your senior."

Inside Alya's room, Sawako and Alya stood in front of each other, while Kenshin was on their side.

"I-It's nice to meet you, Alya-san." Sawako stretched her hand forward, offering a handshake.

Alya took it with her own and shook it, "Nice to meet you too, Sawako-san."

"Now that you two know each other, it's time for our new lesson. Sparring. You two are going to use what you learned and fight it off against each other. Don't worry about getting hurt, I'll watch over and make sure nothing bad happens."

With that assurance on the line, Alya and Sawako excitedly agreed.

Although they haven't been taught how to fight but just the thought of using magic to battle fills them with fervour.

After all, who didn't have their childhood centered around magic and stuff?

Even Alya, in all her seriousness, has read fantasy novels, involving magic.

"But where are we fighting at? I don't think my room is large enough for a magic battle, not to mention, how messy it would become." Alya pointed out.

Kenshin patted his chest and replied in a confident manner, "No worries, I have something that would give us the battlefield without making a mess."

Standing up, Kenshin planted his fingers on the ground and much to the two girls' surprise, he chanted a magic spell.

"[Space Magic: Ever Expanding Room!]"

The moment he finished his words, the two watched as the 200 Square feet sized bedroom suddenly stretched tenfold.

The bed and other furniture remained in their place, except for the walls and ceilings that are now hundreds of feet away from the three of them.

Now, the room has become as large as a basketball field.

"S-Space Magic!?" Alya's face twinkled in excitement.

Kenshin smirked, "One of my self-created spells. Very convenient." He then continued.

"Hold still, I'm not done yet."

Another spell and the entire interior of the room started to glow in golden light.

"With this spell. As long as the spell is not stronger than me, it wouldn't leave even a small scratch." He confidently said before continuing, "Now, how about we start the sparring lesson?"

A few minutes later, Sawako and Alya faced each other, a few meters gap between them.

"Once this coin hits the ground. The battle will start, understood?" On the other side, Kenshin was wearing a professional Boxing Referee uniform, a single coin gleaming between his index and middle fingers.

"Yes!" The two girls shouted in unison.

"Good!" Kenshin smiled before flicking the silver coin with his thumb.

He watched as the coin flipped several times in the air before gravity finally did its job and pulled it back down on the ground.

Clang!

"[Fire Magic: Fireball!]"

"[Ice Magic: Ice Spike!]"

The two women cast the basic spells of their favoured element at the same time.

The only difference that happened was their aim.

Alya's baseball-sized fireball only managed to graze Sawako's yellow dress while the latter's finger-sized Ice Spike missed Alya by a large margin.

"Oh no!" Sawako panicked when her ice spike missed the target and became even more panicked when she realized that her favorite yellow dress was burned on the left hem.

Just as she was about to use her own delicate hands to stop the flame from spreading, Kenshin beat her to it.

"[Time Magic: Minor Reversal]"

The spreading flames on the yellow dress suddenly started retracting, and the parts of the dress that it burnt were miraculously turning back to their previous state.

"Thanks." Sawako turned her head to Kenshin and flashed him a smile. The way her lips curved and her eyes riding along with her smile made Kenshin's breath hitch before recovering, "Anytime…"

"…" Alya squinted her eyes at this. Now she starts to feel a small pang of regret for burning Sawako's dress and jealousy for being able to easily get Kenshin's attention and help.

Should I let myself be hit by her next attack? He would probably teleport in front of me and save me, Just thinking about such a possibility made her tempted to actually do it.

Fortunately, rationality won over her impulsive desire to have Kenshin's attention and resisted the temptation.

"Yosh!" On the other hand, Sawako was riled up!

How troublesome, murmured Alya to herself.

"[Fire Magic: Flame Tsunami!]" This is by far, the strongest magic spell in Alya's arsenal, although strong, it has its downsides such as immediately exhausting her entire reserves, leaving her defenseless.

Seeing this, Kenshin sighed in defeat. It seems like Alya, despite her intelligence and all, won't be enough to become talented enough when it comes to battle.

Immediately using your entire mana reserves in a single spell? Talk about one of the most common ways a wizard dies in battle.

Just as Kenshin was about to slap his forehead in disappointment, another one soon followed.

"[Ice Magic: Ice Lance!]" Even Sawako went all out and used her entire reserves in a single spell.

And folks, that's how a reckless wizard dies in a battle.

Just as the two devastating spells were about to collide with each other in the middle, Kenshin instantly appeared near their spells and snapped his fingers.

Snap!

The two raging spells of the opposite sides suddenly vanished without a trace.

One of the perks of being the greatest magician is his capability to reverse spells as long as he has enough knowledge about them. Disrupting their flow and effectively reversing them to the point before they were cast by the user.

It sounds broken but like what was mentioned before, one needs to have extensive knowledge of the spell that is thrown for it to be reversed.

"You two…have a very long way to go before engaging in battles." Kenshin scolded them.

Kenshin's face turned serious, his aura shifting to his long-abandoned teacher mode, "Do you think magic battles like this are like video games? Where you just use spells without a care for your mana reserves? That your recovery rate and mana potions would save your asses?"

"In a real battle, you wouldn't even be able to take a sip of your so-called mana potion before your enemy has long decapitated your heads. Not to mention, your recovery rates don't give you instantaneous mana regeneration."

Unless you are me, Kenshin added inside his mind.

While Sawako felt a bit bad about being in the wrong, nothing is more painful than what Alya is feeling at the same time.

She has always strived to be perfect, making fewer mistakes than the others and taking everything seriously.

But now, for the first time, she felt like she was normal like most people she used to look down on.

His next words however, made her feel at ease, "But since it's mostly my fault for expecting since I barely taught you how to fight, I'll be taking the blame for now."

"Now, first things first, when it comes to battle, always assume the worst. Ask yourself questions like 'What if my enemy knows my weaknesses? What if my enemy has magic that can counter mine? What if my enemy is ten times stronger than me?' and such questions…."

———

"It should be here?" Just outside Alya's home, Yasaka floats in the air, rubbing her chin as she double and triple checked the house and Kenshin's familiar energy is indeed inside.

What if I got the wrong house? It would be a bit embarrassing. She muttered to herself, unsure whether to enter or not.

In the end, she trusted whatever she's senses inside and knocked on the door.

Knock!

Knock!

A few seconds later, the door opens and an unfamiliar brown-haired busty lady opens the door.

"Hmm? Hello there…uhm, we haven't invited a Miko. Our Home doesn't need cleansing" She tilted her head in confusion, misunderstanding the situation.

"…I'm not here for home cleansing and I'm not a Miko. I just want to ask if there's someone named Kuroki Kenshin in here? I'm a friend of his, my name is Yasaka." Yasaka introduced herself, hoping that her name was mentioned to this girl.

She seemed to be deep in thought for a few seconds before speaking, "…Yasaka? I don't know you but I do know Ken-chan! He's actually inside right now! Do you want to go see him?" She then proceeded to step aside and pull the door wide open.

Woman, aren't you too trusting of me? You just met me and you're letting me in just because I know Kenshin? Yasaka's lips twitched.

Nevertheless, it's a win-win situation for me. Kenshin is indeed inside, saving me from embarrassment and also from having to influence this woman to let me in, she continued.

"Why thank you, Miss?" Yasaka smiled and asked for her name.

"Just call me Maria, as long as it's a friend of Ken-chan, they can call me by my first name." Maria shared the same expression and ushered her inside.

She continued, pointing at the stairs, "They're upstairs. Do you want to wait here or visit them?"

Them? So he's really not alone huh? Yasaka murmured to herself, a glint flashing in her eyes.

"Can I go visit…them?" Yasaka slowly asked, her voice calm, too calm.

Maria however, remained oblivious to this and eagerly nodded her head. It's not like she agreed to it because she's curious as to what Kenshin does in Alya's room with two girls. Yup, definitely not curious!

"Okay. Be quiet though. I want to surprise them." Maria playfully placed her index finger to her lips before giggling.

Yasaka, liking her plan, nodded her head and played along.

They quietly walked up the flight of stairs before reaching the door to Alya's room.

"They're too quiet. So quiet." Maria suspiciously mumbled to herself, her eyebrows frowning and mind wandering to various possible reasons behind.

Could it be…they're already on that kind of stage?! Was I wrong with Ken-chan? I-Is he corrupting my dear Alya-chan!? Panicking, Maria couldn't hold herself and strode forward, her hand finding itself latching on the cold metallic doorknob before twisting it.

Just in time for the other side to pull open also.

"Who is it? Maria-san?" It was Kenshin, looking normal just like before.

Maria squinted her eyes at him, her eyes slowly shifting to his behind, and what she saw made her scalp tingle.

Both Sawako and Alya were wearing exhausted expressions and sweaty faces, trying to hide the fact that they're panting for air.

That was the last straw in Maria's mind as she mentally screamed.

NOOOO!! My dear Alya-chan has been corrupted!

Before Maria could confront Kenshin about it, the latter was sweating heavily not because of Maria's glare but due to the presence of Yasaka by her side.

"Y-Yasaka? What are you doing here?" Kenshin tried to keep his composure, acting as if everything was just normal.

"Ara….I wonder why you're alone in a room with these two ladies? Are they sick? Why are they sweaty and panting for air like animals I wonder…" Yasaka's eyes squinted at Kenshin's.

Oh fuck. I-Is this the end of the line for me? Kenshin closed his eyes, ready to embrace death for the second time.

I guess I'm going to die a virgin…

[Is writing a Mass Effect fanfic gonna do good or plop? Just asking, recently instanstalled the Legendary Edition, with all three titles and dlcs. I'm also hooked just as I was with the Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, there are so many titles I want to write a fic with lol.]

[Also, I noticed when I was reading some fics that readers would find using em-dashes like this — as a sign of using AI. I also use em-dash but I don't use AI. I previously asked ChatGPT how to use em-dashes and it says that em-dashes are used for emphasis or as a replacement for comma, which is why I'm using em-dashes. I swear guys, I don't use ai, maybe Grammarly, but is Grammarly considered AI?]
