"So who is joining us to check out the creature?" Ryn asked, his voice carrying across the gathering, but no one answered. The silence pressed on him, heavy and suffocating.
There were already three of them—himself, Thane, and Jani—but that would not be enough. If the creature attacked, they would be overpowered, and he needed more hands to stand against it.
Still, no one raised their hands except Ana and Mira. When Mira's hand lifted into the air, Ryn's heart clenched. His brows furrowed deeply, and he shook his head in disapproval at the very thought of her joining them.
"Why don't you just stay behind," he offered quickly. "We can handle the situation, and you don't have to worry about what happens because we don't know what that creature is. We could all be at risk. You are the only one I know who could handle any attack from the creature." He added, though even as the words left him, he knew that was not the whole truth.
