Chapter 114 - Chapter 114: Why Aren’t You Playing by the Rules?

Vroom!

The roar of an engine echoed across the wilderness.

The sniper, known only as Old Third, had his foot slammed down on the gas pedal, practically wishing he could push it through the floor.

Unfortunately for him, this wasn't a paved road. The rugged terrain was littered with debris, sand, and dry brush. No matter how hard he floored it, his speed just wouldn't climb.

Managing to maintain 100 kilometers per hour without flipping over was already a testament to his off-roader's quality.

And to be fair, 100 kph wasn't slow by any means. Even on a highway, it was decent. But right now, behind him, a shadowy figure was chasing his car, and that figure was gaining ground.

On foot.

Could a person's legs actually outrun a car doing 100 kilometers per hour?

Ask anyone, and you'd get the same answer impossible.

And yet, impossibility had just become reality.

Old Third kept glancing nervously into the rearview mirror. After confirming he wasn't hallucinating, sheer terror set in.

Terror down to his very bones.

"What kind of monster is this guy?!"

The figure was drawing closer and closer. Old Third's face twisted with despair.

In the next moment, a terrifying force slammed into the back of his vehicle.

His off-roader flipped violently, like it had been hit by a freight train.

At that speed, a rollover was no minor accident.

With a thunderous crash, the car spun out, tumbling over and over. Mud and metal flew through the air. Eventually, it smashed into a large tree and came to a halt, upside down and mangled beyond recognition.

Vincent Fox calmly approached the wreckage.

Old Third was trapped in the driver's seat, covered in blood.

A thick branch had pierced through the shattered windshield and stabbed straight into his abdomen.

Even if Vincent did nothing, Old Third wasn't going to survive.

Vincent was about to ask a question when Old Third coughed up blood and groaned in agony.

"I'll tell you… who sent us to kill you… Just give me a quick death!"

Vincent blinked in surprise.

Wait a minute. Isn't that my line?

He nodded slightly.

Old Third continued, voice strained with pain, "We were just doing a job… It all started with Walter Wayne from Godslayer Academy. He told the Harper and Lawson families that you killed their heirs in Forbidden Zone No. 3. That's what triggered their blood feud…"

"The info about your whereabouts… that was leaked by Walter too…"

Blood poured from Old Third's mouth as he gasped, "That's all I know… Please, make it quick…"

Vincent nodded again.

He raised one finger and gently tapped it against Old Third's forehead.

Squelch.

His finger pierced through the man's skull like a blade, shredding his brain and ending his pain.

Since the man had cooperated, Vincent gave him the swift death he asked for.

Then, without hesitation, Vincent activated his Blazing Flame ability and ignited the wrecked vehicle in a burst of fire.

Flames roared to life, engulfing the entire car.

Vincent's eyes were cold as he stared at the blaze.

Walter Wayne.

The Harper Family.

The Lawson Family.

That those two families sent people to assassinate him? Expected. They deserved death.

But the one who deserved it most… was Walter.

Sure, what he said was true Elias Vale and Liam Frost had indeed died at Vincent's hands.

But Walter had no proof. He had simply guessed and, to save his own skin, deliberately redirected the two families' rage toward Vincent.

Worse still, he collaborated with the assassins and leaked Vincent's movements.

If Vincent didn't kill him, he'd be letting Walter off too easy.

Watching the flames devour the vehicle, Vincent finally turned and walked away.

An hour later, Vincent returned to the city.

It was already dark.

He took out his phone and called Autumn Summer.

"Vincent?" Autumn's voice lit up with surprise and joy. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine," Vincent chuckled. "Almost at the hotel."

"Perfect! We're all waiting here for you."

"By the way, did Mr. Terry get in touch with you? How are things on their end?"

"Not good," Autumn replied. "A lot of casualties… but they finally wiped out the mutant beasts. They should be back soon."

Vincent exhaled in relief. "Good. We'll talk when I get there."

He hung up and headed toward the hotel.

Before long, he arrived at the entrance.

Autumn and a group of classmates were already outside waiting for him.

"Vincent!"

Autumn waved happily.

The moment Vincent stepped closer, the other students rushed up around him.

"Vincent, you're incredible!"

"It's so good to see you safe!"

"Ben, what are you even saying? With Vincent's strength, some beasts wouldn't stand a chance!"

"Sorry, Vincent, I was just too excited to see you."

Everyone started talking at once.

Vincent smiled. "I'm fine. Let's not block the door. We can talk inside."

The group walked into the hotel.

Ben Carter leaned closer and whispered, "Vincent, the captain from Regal Academy came by twice. Both times he asked if you'd returned…"

"Oh?"

Vincent was momentarily surprised, but then brushed Lucia Blair out of his mind.

He asked instead, "Anyone from Godslayer Academy show up? Any instructors?"

Ben shook his head. "Not sure. But I did hear their instructor Walter Wayne got fired by the academy."

"Probably because Godslayer got eliminated in the second round. The school needed someone to take the fall," Ben added with a grin.

But Vincent frowned.

If Walter hadn't been fired, he could've just gone straight to the academy to deal with him. But now?

Finding him would be more complicated.

Vincent decided he'd ask Terry Yan once he got back.

That evening, major news outlets were ablaze with stories about the mutant beast invasion.

Reporters praised the teachers who had responded to the military's call and fought to protect civilians, drawing applause from netizens across the country.

And among the headlines, one name kept appearing.

Vincent Fox.

The young man who lured away the beasts and saved countless lives.

A rising legend.
