Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: I Bonded With a C-Class Hero

After the burly man was taken away, the police quickly arrived to restore order. Vincent Fox noticed that the injured bystanders didn't fuss or protest they quietly accepted compensation and the officers' instructions. Passersby, after watching the commotion for a while, shrugged and went about their business. Clearly, incidents like this had become commonplace in their world.

This was not a peaceful realm it was one where superhumans existed. Crimes committed by the gifted were an everyday occurrence. Realizing this, Vincent turned away and resumed his training. He needed to grow stronger, continually stronger, so that one day he'd be invincible and no longer worry about being caught in the crossfire of such events.

The next morning, the lecture hall at Saint Valor University buzzed with new students. Thanks to superpowers, there was no military drill requirement at universities here anyone could train more effectively by exploring a Forbidden Zone. Vincent waited for class to begin. Yesterday, he'd planned to visit the library after training, only to find that its first floor held only general-interest books. Everything about the Forbidden Zones was classified, and access to specialized texts was restricted to upper floors off-limits to freshmen. The censorship was so strict that unauthorized sharing of information carried legal penalties.

Moments later, a poised young woman stepped to the lectern, laid down her roster, and smiled. "Quiet down, everyone. I'm your counselor, Helen Simon. Over the next four years, I hope we'll work together to achieve our goals." Her confident bearing caught many of the boys' attention.

She opened her register. "Let's begin roll call. When I call your name, please stand and introduce yourself. If you've successfully resonated with a hero, state that, too."

"Leon Sun!"

A bespectacled, slender youth rose. Blushing, he said, "Hello, everyone. I'm Leon Sun from Huajin City, an ordinary person."

"Yvonne Bright."

A cool, composed girl stood. "Hello. I'm Yvonne Bright, from Ningzhou. I successfully bonded with the B-Class hero Hellblizzard."

A ripple of astonishment spread through the room. Why would Hellblizzard's match—a hero of such power attend a third-rate university? Hellblizzard was B-Class but highly capable, with enormous potential. Logically, her successor should have qualified for a top-tier school.

Yvonne continued, "Though I bonded successfully, I inherited only one of her interests, not her psionic gift."

Silence fell. Everyone stared in disbelief. A successful match that conferred only a shared hobby?

Vincent's heart raced. At least he'd inherited Saitama's physique if he'd gained only Saitama's "salt-edgy" demeanor without the power, he'd be doomed.

Murmurs rose: "I never knew that could happen… only a hobby?" "No wonder she chose this school." "Still better than failing at least she has an attribute panel!"

Counselor Simon held up her hand. "Quiet, please. Thank you, Yvonne Bright, for that frank introduction. Next, Vincent Fox!"

Vincent stood, expression calm. "Hello. I'm Vincent Fox, from Baoan City. I, too, successfully bonded but with a C-Class hero."

Pandemonium erupted!
