Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Isn’t This a Bit Too Dangerous?

What followed was more content from Professor Zhou. He went into further detail about zombie dogs, Lickers, and various other mutated creatures.

By the time he finished, the entire class was visibly shaken.

And this was just Forbidden Zone #2?

How terrifying would the higher-numbered zones be?

Among all the students, only Vincent Tan remained unshaken—no fear, not even the slightest hint of anxiety.

In fact, everything Professor Zhou described only reinforced his belief.

Forbidden Zone #2… was Resident Evil.

And not just the games. It was the movie version of the Resident Evil universe!

Just then, a girl in the back of the room raised her hand, unable to hold back her question.

"Professor, is Forbidden Zone #2 really filled with so many dangerous creatures?"

Professor Zhou answered flatly, "These are not exaggerations. Every piece of information you've received was gathered through the sacrifices of countless soldiers. Do you think the government would fabricate any of this?"

"But… isn't this only Zone #2?" the girl hesitated, "If it's already this dangerous, is it really suitable for beginners?"

"What's the matter? Getting cold feet?"

Professor Zhou smiled faintly. "They're called 'Forbidden Zones' for a reason. If they weren't dangerous, they wouldn't be forbidden."

His eyes swept across the entire class as he slowly continued.

"If any of you are too afraid, now's your chance. You can still drop out."

A brief silence fell over the room.

Several students rolled their eyes. Drop out? After paying all that tuition?

Would that even come with a refund?

Of course not.

Everyone here had willingly chosen this path. These weren't kids content with being ordinary. They were all here to bet on changing their lives.

The room remained silent.

Seeing no one willing to back out, Professor Zhou resumed his lecture.

"In truth, zombies are the most common threat in Zone #2. The other dangerous mutants I mentioned are relatively rare. You'd only encounter them if you're really unlucky."

"If you can avoid drawing too much attention after entering the zone, you likely won't cross paths with any of them."

"And even if you do, it's not like there's no chance of survival."

"That's all for today's introduction to Zone #2. When you go back, study your manuals thoroughly. Ideally, memorize as much as possible within the month. Once you're inside, you'll need to know what you're dealing with."

"Oh, and one more thing—those manuals in your hands are classified. They can only be used within the campus and must not be taken outside under any circumstance. You are personally responsible for keeping them safe. They will be collected in a month."

"In the next class, I'll go over survival strategies for Zone #2. That's it for now. Dismissed."

With that, Professor Zhou packed up and left.

The moment he walked out the door, the classroom erupted in chatter.

Nearly every student was voicing their panic and disbelief.

"Damn! Zone #2 is way more dangerous than I thought!"

"Dude, you just realized? Do you know how many people die in these zones every year?"

"If I knew it was like this, I wouldn't have enrolled."

"Well, the professor did say it's not too late to drop out."

"If Zone #2 is already this bad, I don't even want to think about what's in Zone #3…"

"Sigh. Now I finally understand why our high school teachers always said if you fail the Hero Sync Test, you might as well be a regular nobody. Without a hero's talents, these zones are just deathtraps."

"I don't care how dangerous it is. I'm not backing down. If I quit now, it's either the factory floor or breaking my back on someone else's farm."

"That's right! I'd rather risk my life than spend it grinding as someone else's lackey!"
