Jack couldn't breathe. The sight before him wasn't real. Selena's skin was too pale, her lips too blue, her hair clinging wetly to her face. She looked like a doll someone had forgotten in the water, lifeless, limp. His knees hit the tile before he even knew he'd fallen. His hands clawed for her. From her face, her arm, her hand, as though if he touched her enough, if he held her tightly enough, he could drag her back from wherever she'd gone.
"Selena, please..." His voice broke apart, shattering with every syllable. He cradled her wrist in his trembling hand, pressing it against his cheek, desperate for warmth. There was nothing. Just the chill of porcelain and water and death.
"Wake up," he begged, rocking forward. His forehead pressed against hers, his tears spilling onto her skin. "Please, wake up. I'll do anything, just… not like this. Not you. Please, baby..."
