Lucien appeared beside his final Split Body and absorbed it immediately.
The Spatial Compass insisted that the third Incarnation remained directly ahead.
Lucien looked forward.
A man stood alone on a rocky rise.
Human.
That surprised him more than the other vessels had.
The man appeared young, perhaps somewhere in his twenties, with plain dark hair and features that would have allowed him to disappear into almost any crowd.
Nothing about the vessel looked remarkable.
The authority inside him was another matter.
Lucien felt it immediately.
Fracture.
The man smiled.
There was no urgency in him and no preparation for battle.
He looked almost relieved to see Lucien.
That bothered him the most.
The Spatial Compass still pointed directly toward him.
Fracture tilted his head slightly.
"You caught the wrong one."
That's when Lucien's instincts reacted.
Not to an attack, but to something else.
