Chapter 2 - The Meet

Her eyes widen with disbelief and a surge of relief washes over her as she watches George wake from unconsciousness. Without hesitation, she yells, "Ammumma! Ammumma!" until an old woman arrives in the yard. The "Ammumma" turns her attention to George, examines his pulse and temperature, and announces, "He is fine now" (in her native language).

He is puzzled by the old woman and the young woman as they converse in a language thay he doesn't understand and says, "I cannot make head or tails of what you're saying." The young woman swivels to face George and says, "You are all right now. However, you need to get some rest, is what she is advising," in English. George is astonished to hear her speaking English and wonders how a small-town girl can speak and comprehend English and is strong enough to carry him. He looks at her as if a disembodied spirit is speaking. The young woman gets concerned for him and asks, "Are you okay? Can you see me and hear me?" Returning to his senses, George responds, "I am okay and am deeply grateful for rescuing me." Interrupting him, the young woman says, "It's true that I carried you all the way here, but it is appropriate to thank Ammumma, because she is the reason you regained consciousness."

George feels grateful, and expresses his thankfulness by saying, "Dhanyavaadh (Thank you. It is one of the few words George learned on his way to India)! Ammumma. Ammumma is genuinely a delightful name." The young woman corrects him, "Ammumma is not a name; it means grandmother." Feeling a little flushed, his pale face reddens like a tomato and he questions the young woman, "May I know this sweet 'Ammumma's' name then? And also, you might want to tell me your name before I refer to you as something like "Ammumma""
