Listening to that, George gets a bit disappointed. Once again, the last part of the trip continues to be completely quiet. As they approach the destination where George had fainted earlier, the two of them begin their mission of finding the luggage. To his surprise, the luggage lies undisturbed under a tree. His happiness knows no bounds, and he starts chuckling like a mad person. The young woman glances at him from a distance and smirks.
Just as they are heading out, three British police officers approach the young woman. They look suspiciously at her and proceed to inquire, "What is your identity? Where do you come from? What are you doing here?" The young woman becomes distraught and remains silent. Their suspicions heighten. One of them steps forward and grabs her hand, saying threateningly, "If you don't tell us your whereabouts, we will find our own way to learn them."
George steps in immediately and says, "Allow me to introduce myself. I am the newly appointed sub-collector of Tunnur. This woman was formerly a maid in my second uncle's household. Upon visiting them recently, they spoke highly of this woman, whom they employed five years ago, praising her ability to do household tasks and her multilingual skills. Given my lack of familiarity with the locale and having no experience with domestic duties, I solicited her services. My uncle consented, as he was returning home and her services were no longer needed."
One of the officers frowns and inquires, "Well, if she is multilingual, why hasn't this woman said a word?"
"She is in her courses.According to her place of origin, women are not allowed to speak with men during those times," George says without flinching.
"There is a theft in the nearby kingdom. A woman in her early twenties stole jewellery two days ago and escaped. So, we are supposed to bring women of that age in these surroundings to the police station so that higher officials can investigate them. Therefore, we are escorting this woman to the police station."
George's tone turns sharp "Well, provided she has traveled with me from Bombay to Tunnur over the past week, how can she steal something nearby and escape? I don't think she is a magician or a witch. She's currently occupied with more pressing matters—she needs to carry this luggage and help in my household." He then orders the young woman to carry the luggage pointing to the tree and walks away. The young woman carries the luggage and follows George.
After proceeding for a while, George halts and looks at her, saying, "I am completely bewildered about our route. I request that you guide our party. It seems like we got rid of them. So, I will carry this luggage from here, and you can lead us."
