I stood in the shower washing off the day. Marie's got the hottest body I've ever seen. But I have the most hatred for her and her family and what they have reduced me to. The smallest fish, like Deanna said. This fight was really between me and them, and once I am done, they will cry and beg at my feet.
Then I'll show them who the boss is.
My contract with Marcus was simple. It could have been simple for a start, or not for the nosy fiancé of his, Deanna.
I already acknowledged that I made a mistake by inviting her to dinner, but I didn't think she had more influence than I expected.
Now I see why Marcus was with her. They weren't in love or anything. It was just to strengthen the power they already have, and they would come together and destroy me if I made a move against them.
I stood under the shower as I thought of how best to approach it.
