The house was silent the next morning.
For a change since the past few weeks, Silas woke up to find his clothes already laid out.
So, it took him less time to get ready and head downstairs.
There, he found Talia eating at the dining table, while Ayla stood docilely beside her, eyes lowered.
Dropping his briefcase on another chair, he took his seat.
At the same time, Talia slammed down her sandwich with a frown. "When will Miss Simmons be coming?"
"Once the rumor has settled, she should be able to visit us again," he slowly answered, then raised his eyes toward Ayla.
"Once this is over, be sympathetic to Elena. She was merely helping out her senior, so it's not her fault some sicko recorded us without consent."
Ayla had her fingers pressed tightly together as she raised her face.
She could barely see him as she had a completely swollen eyes which was sealed shut and one which was barely open.
