"Holy crap," Li Xuan couldn't help but curse at the sight before him.
In front of him was a giant squid. Li Xuan was certain it was a squid because its head was long, unlike the round, egg-shaped head of an octopus. And unlike a squid, it had a boat-shaped, calcareous internal shell.
Hmph, it was an easy distinction for a top student like Li Xuan. Most people, however, couldn't tell the difference. In any case, creatures of this type were generally good for grilling.
"…System analysis concludes this squid has been infected by Honkai energy," Bronya stated with her usual deadpan expression.
"Hmph, shorty, you think we needed you to tell us that?! Would a normal squid grow this big?!" Kiana retorted dismissively. She and Bronya locked eyes again, sparks flying between them.
"From a certain perspective, Honkai energy really is omnipotent…" Li Xuan marveled at the squid, which stood as tall as a two-story building. It would be incredibly difficult for humans to artificially create a squid this large. Even with hormones or nuclear radiation, it would be a challenge.
"Wow! A squid this big would make for a lot of grilled squid…" Kiana's eyes lit up as she stared at the giant creature, drool practically pouring from her mouth. The thought of grilled squid, cooked to a purplish-red and sprinkled with chili powder and other spices, made Li Xuan's own mouth begin to water.
"Could this be what attracted all the Honkai Zombies?" Mei wondered aloud, looking at the giant squid.
"No, that's only part of the reason," Bronya said flatly. "Bronya's system analysis suggests the gathering of Honkai Zombies is related to a peculiar fragrance in the air."
"Come to think of it, I've been smelling something really fragrant for a while now," Li Xuan said, sniffing the air.
"Really? All I smell is something weird," Kiana said, confused.
"I think the smell is coming from over there," Li Xuan said, pointing to the other side of the giant squid. He walked around the massive creature, and Kiana and the others followed.
"What the hell!" Li Xuan was startled once again. On the other side of the squid were two food carts. In a ghost town like Nagazora City, where humans were as rare as pandas, the appearance of food carts was as shocking as seeing a ghost in broad daylight.
"Those look like an ice cream cart and a curry rice cart," Mei observed, glancing at the pictures and logos on them.
"Yo! We have customers!" a voice suddenly came from the ice cream cart.
"Pathetic. They must be here to taste my curry rice! Hmph!" a voice from the curry rice cart chimed in.
"Stupid rabbit! Nobody wants to eat your disgusting food," the ice cream cart shot back, starting a spat.
"Dumb dog, your sickeningly sweet cooking is what nobody should be asking for," the curry rice cart retorted.
"Stupid rabbit!"
"Dumb dog!"
"Wait! Can you please come out and talk? We can't see you," Li Xuan interjected, preventing a tragic verbal war from escalating.
"Since it's a customer's request, I shall oblige," said the voice from the curry rice cart.
"Okay, customer, I'm coming out," said the ice cream cart.
And just like that, a three-inch-tall bunny girl with an impressive bust hopped out of the curry rice cart. From the ice cream cart emerged a similarly three-inch-tall dog-eared girl (who insisted she was a wolf) with a flat chest.
"What are they?!" Li Xuan exclaimed in shock.
"Oh, they're familiars. They appeared with the Honkai energy, for reasons unknown. But they don't usually attack humans and might even help people," Kiana explained.
"So! Which of our dishes would you like to try?" the two familiars asked in unison, pushing each other aside. Then, they turned to each other and said, "The customer won't eat yours!"
So, what exactly is happening here? Li Xuan thought, covering his face.

The Super Electromagnetic Hand Cannon, a favorite among free-to-play users, has a very cool design. Its dark body and blue energy cell give it a high-tech feel.
This gun originates from 'PSYCHO-PASS,' where it's called the 'Dominator.' The writer of this series might be familiar to some of you—it's Gen Urobuchi! (If you haven't heard of him, he's also the creator of Puella Magi Madoka Magica, which you should know.) In the anime, the Super Electromagnetic Hand Cannon is the weapon of the protagonist, Shinya Kogami. If you're interested in the anime, you should check it out.
Super Electromagnetic Hand Cannon:
Five-Star: At max level, has a clip size of 23 and 1166 attack power. Skill: Paralyze - On hit, has a 45% chance to paralyze the enemy, making them unable to move or attack for 2 seconds.
Six-Star: At max level, has a clip size of 32 and 1943 attack power. Skill: Paralyze - On hit, has a 50% chance to paralyze the enemy, making them unable to move or attack for 2 seconds.
