Chapter 42 - Chapter 47 – Fractures

The city skyline was a jagged silhouette against the early morning light, its glass towers gleaming like shards of ice. But beneath the surface, tension simmered—fractures forming not just in the streets, but within Selene's team.

Back at the safe house, the air was thick with unease. After the breakthrough at the docks and the introduction of Mira's resistance network, the group was fractured in more ways than one. Trust, once their strongest weapon, now wavered under the weight of secrets and suspicion.

Selene paced the cramped room, her thoughts heavy. Marrow sat quietly in the corner, jaw clenched, eyes dark with frustration. Lina's fingers nervously tapped at her tablet, while Cassandra leaned against the wall, arms crossed, watching everyone with a calculating gaze. Calder had been unusually silent since their last meeting, his eyes avoiding contact.

Selene knew that the pressure was taking its toll, but the timing couldn't be worse. The enemy was mobilizing, and they needed unity more than ever.

"Enough," Selene said sharply, halting the growing tension. "We're on the brink of something that could change everything. But if we're divided, we fall."

Marrow's voice broke the silence, rough but honest. "It's not that simple. We don't all see this the same way anymore. Mira's resistance… their methods—they're risky. Some of us want to move fast; others want caution. Where do you stand?"

Selene stopped, meeting his gaze. "I stand with survival. With winning. But I won't sacrifice my team for reckless decisions."

Cassandra scoffed lightly. "Sometimes risk is necessary. Harrow won't wait for us to catch up."

A bitter debate erupted, voices rising. Calder finally spoke, his tone measured but firm. "The fractures in this team mirror the fractures in the city. If we can't fix ourselves, how can we fix anything else?"

Lina looked up, eyes shining with a mix of fear and resolve. "We need to talk about the mole. We still don't know who's betraying us. That uncertainty is poisoning us from within."

Selene's heart tightened. The mole was a shadow over them all, a ghost that threatened to undo everything they'd fought for.

Hours passed in tense discussion, accusations, and half-truths. The night deepened, and exhaustion made everyone raw and vulnerable. Yet beneath the discord, a spark of clarity began to form.

"We need a new strategy," Selene said quietly, voice steady despite the turmoil. "One that embraces the resistance but keeps us grounded. And we need to find the mole before they destroy us."

Mira's voice, calm but commanding, cut through the noise. "I can help with that. My network has eyes everywhere. We'll root out the traitor—together."

As the team slowly rallied around this fragile plan, Selene felt the first glimmer of hope in days. The fractures were still there, but maybe, just maybe, they could be healed.

The road ahead would be brutal—full of shadows, lies, and blood. But Selene knew this was their moment. Their fracture point.

And only by facing it head-on could they hope to survive the coming storm.
