The Line I Cross
The warehouse was quiet in the way that makes you feel like you're being watched.
The smell hit me first — stale air, damp concrete, and something metallic that clung to the back of my throat. The place had been abandoned for years, but it still carried the weight of all the things it had seen. The faint drip of water came from somewhere deep inside, each drop echoing like a slow clock counting down.
My boots crunched over broken glass as I stepped inside. The light from outside didn't do much here. It came in through cracks in the walls and holes in the roof, spilling onto the dusty floor in thin strips that looked more like wounds than light.
I didn't need a guide to know where she was.
