The news moved quickly through everyone in the pack. Before the day ended, every hallway buzzed with stories about what happened at the training area. Each time the story was told, it changed a little. Some people said the attackers were after Damien. Others said the arrows were only meant for Evelyn. But no matter how the story was changed, the end was always the same: Damien was hurt, and he had protected Evelyn.
By the next day, there was a heavy feeling inside the pack house. The servants lowered their heads when Evelyn walked by, but they started whispering as soon as she was gone. She could feel them watching her, and she felt like they were judging her.
"They say she brings bad luck."
