Eidonel was sitting on his throne contemplating his conversation with Mey.
Then his voice boomed throughout the throne room with authority.
"Bring Kai to me."
The angels flinched back. Then Eidonel spoke again with more authority.
"Now."
The angels stumbled up from one knee and stumbled over each other.
Now the Eidonal was alone; he let his rage out.
His aura, however, wasn't filled with malice, but understanding, as if he understood where Mey was coming from.
Then his expression changed to something unreadable.
"Who really decides what's right and wrong? In a world with three realms of the same size, they are very different, yet the same. They each have their own morals. So who decides what's right and wrong? Even I can't control the morals of all my subjects."
The hall fell silent, but the words lingered in the air.
He wasn't talking to anyone, but he was talking to everyone, to the very walls of the throne room.
Eidonel sat in this silence until his guards returned, but Kai wasn't in tie behind them.
The angels looked discouraged and scared, then Vener spoke up, his voice shaking with fear.
"Sir, it seems Kai has escaped the jail cell. The bars were melted when we go there."
"Then go search for him."
Eidonel's voice was calm.
One of the angels let out a sigh of relief. Then, they all got up and scurried about the castle looking for Kai.
Meg was still invisible, hanging over Kai's shoulder, giving him directions.
Left.
Right.
Another right.
Go straight.
Eventually, they ended up on the top floor of the prison.
It was a giant white spire that overlooked all of Luminaris.
"So there is a sun in Luminaris."
Kai turned around and walked over to the side of the spire.
His face went pale.
"Woah, was this place ravaged by the war?"
"No. This is just how the low-tier angels live in Eidonel's world. It's horrible."
Down the tower was a dirty village. There was trash on the ground, angels in the streets begging for food and water, and the houses were so rundown.
"I never would've thought angels lived like this. From the books in the human realm, it seemed like the angels were living the high life, no matter how low-ranking they were."
Although Kai had already figured out that those books were propaganda placed by the angels.
"Kai, as you know, when war breaks out, both sides believe they're just. This is why I'm glad you've decided not to take part. I don't want you to pick a side, then feel like you made a wrong choice afterwards."
Mey's voice was calm, but there was a hint of something else in her voice that I couldn't make out.
"I know, but that's not why I decided not to take part in this war."
Kai paused. Then he spat, his voice cold.
"I'm not taking part because I never wanted to take part in the war in the first place, hell I didn't even know there was a war. Besides, I've never believed in 'fate', even now."
Kai then turned around to face Mey and said.
"We've lingered here long enough. Eidonel has probably already figured out I've escaped."
"True. Let's get going then. Follow me."
Mey grabbed Kai before jumping off the white spire.
The two plummeted towards the ground, then right before they hit the ground, Mey's giant black, raven-like wings flapped out from her back, causing a huge gust of wind to rustle the two's hair.
Suddenly, beams of light came flying at the two.
Mey weaved in between the beams with ease.
There was one beam she couldn't dodge. It clipped her hand, causing her to drop Kai.
Thankfully, they weren't that high off the ground.
Kai landed on the ground with a thud.
The beams kept firing at Mey, keeping her from picking up Kai.
Kai was in the middle of the rundown town.
Angels came out of the houses, saw Kai, and started chasing him.
The faces were twisted with desperation. Twisted smiles were also plastered on their faces.
Kai began to sprint. He ran as fast as he could, not stopping to look back.
When he was waiting in his cell for Mey, he had figured out how to activate his new powers.
He activated Runeheart, which enhanced his reflexes and increased his speed and power.
The angels couldn't keep up with their worn-out physiques.
Kai looked up to the sky to see Mey still dodging the beams of light.
Kai then looked around to try to spot where the beams of light were coming from. He saw multiple angels on top of buildings.
He knew he had to get up there, but some of the angels were keeping up. He had to do something about them before he could stop the angels firing the beams.
An idea came to his mind.
He turned around and activated Sovereign's command and uttered a single word.
"Burn."
The next second, the angels that were chasing Kai burst into flames. Screams of agony rang in Kai's ears, but he ignored them and kept running towards the angels on the roofs.
Meanwhile, Mey was firing balls of shadows mixed with light.
Kai wondered why Mey's shadows were mixed with light, but he had more important things to worry about.
It was starting to get dark. Mey became harder to see, even with the beams of the lighting up the sky. Her black wings started to blend in with the darkening sky.
Once the beams of light stopped firing at Mey, she swooped down and picked Kai up.
The two flew towards a portal that they had spotted from the top of the spire. It was about a mile past the ruined city.
They stopped about 300 yards from the portal because 15 angels were posted there. One of them had ten wings.
Mey's face was stoic, but when she spoke, her voice was shaky.
"The one in the middle is Eidonel. The one with ten wings."
She paused, then said coldly.
"We'll have to get through them to make it out. I don't think I can beat Eidonel, but I can stall him to buy you enough time to get through the portal."
Kai looked at her and spoke.
"If I'm leaving, you're coming with me. I won't leave without you. You've already saved me twice."
Kai paused, then said seriously.
"I won't let you save me again."
Mey just sighed and nodded.
"Fine. Can you take on the other 14 while I take on Eidonel?"
"Yes."
"Alright, just don't get yourself hurt or killed."
"If I die, the world just resets; it's no big deal. I don't even remember the pain of dying."
"Do you really want to do this again? There is no telling if everything will turn out the same way."
"Not really, but if I have to do it again, I will. I need to shatter my fate. I just want to live peacefully."
"Alright, let's go then."
Mey picked me up and started flying towards the portal.
As the two got closer, Kai could feel Eidonel's presence. It was heavy. It felt like gravity had increased tenfold. Kai had trouble breathing.
Kai and Mey could also see the other angels. There were ten two-winged angels, three four-winged angels, and one six-winged angel. And of course Eidonel was there too.
Kai and Mey hovered above the angels. It wasn't just to look cool. Mey was telling Eidonel that she had the moral high ground.
Eidonel spoke, his voice calm and icy.
"Mey, it's good to see you again."
The other fourteen angels eyed Kai before the one with six wings spoke up.
"Kai Mercer, it's truly an honor to meet you."
The angel bowed and spoke with obvious sarcasm.
Kai scoffed, then said.
"Enough, let us through, and no one will have to die."
The angels drew their weapons and laughed. Then the six-winged angel spoke.
"On Eidonel's order, we're not supposed to kill you, but he never said we can't beat you until you cooperate."
"Very well then."
Kai manifested his sword and Echoflame. The flames wrapped around the blade of the sword. He also activated Runeheart. Runes wrapped up his arms like tattoos.
"I'll give you all one last chance to back down."
As if answering, two of the two-winged angels rushed Kai.
The flames of Echoflames burned brighter as Kai stepped forward.
