Chapter 55 - Combat Awareness

At this moment, the Bear-Leopard team lay defeated, one on the arena floor and the other thrown out of the ring. Only then did the host announce that the Seven Treasure Glazed team had won.

Yang Xiong walked over to the slightly panting Ning Rongrong. "Let's go. We've won the match."

Having just gone through an intense battle, Ning Rongrong still seemed a bit shaken. But soon, she couldn't help but smile. "Nice job, Little Bear. As expected of an inner disciple of our sect. From now on, you've got big sister Rongrong to watch your back."

Yang Xiong shook his head. "Rongrong, what did you think of Flender's class today? Still think the running was pointless?"

Ning Rongrong was at a loss for words but responded reluctantly, "If I had been supporting you just now, we could've won even faster. You're the one who didn't let me assist."

Yang Xiong chuckled. "One reason I didn't let you support me was to test my own combat strength, it was a form of tempering myself, especially since I've never done a duo battle before. Another reason was to see how you'd respond. Sometimes, instead of listening to Flender's explanations, it's better for you to experience things firsthand."

Ning Rongrong puffed up in annoyance. "It's your fault for treating this like some experiment. Otherwise, I wouldn't have looked so pitiful out there."

The two walked off the stage. Despite not participating in the fight and not contributing anything, Ning Rongrong still seemed quite happy, after all, it was her first victory in the arena.

Yang Xiong couldn't help but shake his head. This girl was spoiled from a young age, too pampered, really. She was still a bit childish. But as the saying goes: what people can't teach, experience can.

Especially since Ning Rongrong had excellent talent and top-tier comprehension. She should gradually come to understand the true role of a support-type soul master.

From the stands, Tang San and Dai Mubai were both stunned. They hadn't expected Yang Xiong and Ning Rongrong to win so easily. Based on the match, Yang Xiong might've had an even easier time without Ning Rongrong.

After all, Yang Xiong was only at level 26, while the opposing duo were both level 28 battle soul masters with beast spirits and excellent coordination.

Dai Mubai asked, "Tang San, do you think you could beat that Bear-Leopard duo alone?"

The two had already fought before and were about evenly matched. With hidden weapons, Tang San might even be stronger.

Tang San was silent for a moment before replying, "I probably could beat them, but definitely not as easily as Yang Xiong did. He didn't get injured at all. His physical stats, speed, strength, and defense, are all far better than I expected. He doesn't seem to have any weaknesses."

"And he looked so composed throughout the fight. I don't think he even used his full strength. Only he knows how much power he actually used. He didn't use any soul skills, not even the moves he used against Teacher Zhao last time."

"I remember during the entrance exam, Yang Xiong used teleportation, and also had a skill where he attacked with a light orb."

Dai Mubai nodded. "Maybe he thought his opponents weren't worth the effort."

Tang San looked a bit serious. "Something about the fight seemed off. When Yang Xiong was attacked by both opponents, he was able to use different techniques with each hand. That's highly unusual."

"Plus, his reactions were strange. Every time Ning Rongrong was in danger, he saved her at the exact right moment, like he had calculated it in advance, no wasted movements at all."

Having lived two lives and trained the Purple Demon Eye technique, Tang San's spiritual perception far surpassed others his age, allowing him to notice fine details in the match.

In reality, Yang Xiong's performance came from training split-mind control. On the battlefield, he could multitask, both observing the situation and executing different attacks with each hand. It was similar to the dual-handed techniques seen in martial arts novels, but at a much higher level.

While Tang San's skills and perception were decent, Flender, watching from the stands, saw even more.

"This little monster is quite interesting. Seems the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan invested a lot in him. No wonder they sent him to our academy alongside Ning Rongrong."

After two battles, Yang Xiong spent the rest of the evening watching matches with Ning Rongrong. All the Shrek students, except Oscar, had appeared in fights and done fairly well.

Unfortunately, only Tang San and Xiao Wu participated in a duo match, using their familiar San-Wu combo. The rest couldn't find suitable partners.

Dai Mubai was a Soul Elder, while the others were still Soul Masters. If they teamed up with him, they'd be forced to fight other Soul Elders, there'd be no chance of winning.

As for Ma Hongjun and Oscar, even if they teamed up against Soul Masters, their odds of winning were basically zero.

And Zhu Zhuqing clearly disliked Ma Hongjun, so teaming them up was out of the question.

Soon, Oscar approached Yang Xiong. "Little Xiong, Bro Xiong, you know I'm a food-type soul master. I have no real combat ability. Since you're so powerful, how about we team up for the duo matches? I promise I won't hold you back."

"And according to academy rules, if I don't get a Silver Fighting Spirit badge, I won't be able to graduate."

Yang Xiong smiled. "No problem, easy enough. Helping a classmate is the right thing to do. Want to go try a match now?"

Oscar hesitated. "You've already fought two matches. Do you still have enough soul power for another one? Maybe eat a couple sausages first. You know how effective my sausages are for recovery."

Yang Xiong replied, "No need. Let's just go into the match. If I really run low on soul power, I can eat one during the fight."

In truth, Yang Xiong hadn't used any soul skills in his earlier matches. He'd only spent some physical energy, which wasn't an issue for his recovery ability.

Besides, he found bringing a support partner into battle kind of fun. It helped sharpen his combat awareness and was more engaging than a one-on-one.

Compared to others, Yang Xiong actually had a higher opinion of Oscar. At least his behavior was decent and not off-putting.

Soon, Yang Xiong and Oscar entered a duo match. Oscar, compared to Ning Rongrong, had much more combat experience and was agile, clearly no stranger to the arena.

The two easily defeated their opponents. Oscar was happy but a bit troubled. "Bro Xiong, I don't know how many of these Soul Master level duo fights I can do. I'm about to break through to level 30."

Yang Xiong smiled. "Perfect. Once that happens, we can fight Soul Elder level matches. I'd love to see how much pressure I feel fighting two Soul Elders."

Oscar gave a wry smile. "Bro Xiong, you really are a monster. We're called little monsters too, but compared to you, you're on a whole different level."
