Chapter Text
Six moons later…
The training yard had been blissfully quiet as Rhaenyra trained with Ser Harwin Strong. Despite his tall and huge frame, she had already beaten him various times. It hurt his pride a little, but he was glad she could defend herself. The harsh regime Havi imposed on her almost drained the life out of her. By day, she studied with Beesbury and other council members, attended their meetings since the Raven God insisted it was important to familiarize herself with such issues, trained with the Kingsguards and knights alike, and learned how to fly in her new form properly from a safe distance so no one would see.
At night, when she finally slept, she was ambushed once more by Havi, who kicked her ass in the training field. He had cut her hand and leg once with his axe. She was thankful that it only happened in the mind palace, but it still affected her a bit. The god would then keep her for hours in his study, teaching her the language and runes. She was a quick study and learned them almost effortlessly, except for the Norse language. It confused her how one word could mean ten different things when used in sentences. It would take a long time to master it, and it bothered her that he mastered Valyrian within two moons.
It was such a pain in the ass having to constantly listen to the bickering of Havi and Syrax now that she could understand what her dragon was saying. The god thought she was being spoiled too much, relying on humans to do her bidding when she should be out there hunting and growing bigger. Syrax thought Havi was a controlling ass wanting her to starve and complained to Rhaenyra, almost crying about it. If a dragon could cry, Syrax absolutely would. She hated to admit that Havi was right, so she followed his plans, making her dragon travel great distances by herself to hunt fish and goats, filling her belly. Then she'd come back and complain about how hard it was, as if she didn't terrify the peasants half to death.
At least Huginn and Muninn were more cordial and calmer. Muninn was a great little spy to have around and a great gossip too. Her father was quite shocked when she came back with Syrax and two ravens circling her, almost ordering his guards to slaughter them. She threatened to burn the keep if they dared touch or harm them. They hunted for themselves and didn't bother anyone, so the king allowed it. The brothers were such great new friends. Two moons ago, Havi told Huginn to go and visit the Seven Kingdoms, spot them, and remember their places and shapes so in the future it would be easier for them all to travel.
Muninn stayed, though, and she was getting tired of hearing him telling her who was being intimate with whom, which lords were disputing, the gossip of servants, and how her father had been getting a new visitor—her 'lover' Alicent. She was angry at the last one. She had tried so hard to reach Alicent and talk to her, only to be turned away. Muninn told her it was Otto who gave the order. The urge to cut him to pieces still hadn't ceased. She reached out many times to Alicent, telling her how she knew her father was making her visit the king nightly. The Hightower was shocked that her lover knew what she was doing when her father and the king both ordered her not to tell the princess.
"Please let me help you! I can fix this. Don't let your father or your duty separate us. We can be happy. I can make you my wife, and no one would have anything to say!" Rhaenyra begged the young omega who had tears streaming down her face.
"As much as I love you, we can't be together. I can't abandon my father or betray my house. I must do my duty," she pleaded, once again refusing Rhaenyra's offer to fly off to Dragonstone and marry in the ways of her ancestors. She'd never betray her father. He loved her and wanted the best for her and their house. He wanted the best for the kingdom. She had to believe in him.
"Alicent," Rhaenyra began once more, "if you continue doing what you're doing, both our futures, our lives, and our children's lives would be at stake. You know what your father wants," she pleaded once more. "Please forget about him, forget about the king, the throne, and your duty. Just choose me, choose us." She grabbed Alicent's hands in her own, and the latter pulled back.
"I can't, and you are the heir to the throne. My father is loyal to the king and would never be a traitor to him or his wishes. I promise you that," Alicent said, determined for the first time in her life. "I know what I'm doing. If your father remarries another woman, her family would want you disinherited and dead, along with any children we'd have as soon as the new queen birthed a son. But if I were to be queen, I'd protect you. I'd keep my father in check, and your brother would love and defend your birthright. I promise you we will be wed, but somewhere in the future after your father's gone. Just be patient and believe in me. Wait for me, please," she pleaded, making the princess shocked at this stupid idea. Havi was laughing so hard at the stupidity of this girl.
"Are you finally going insane? You will keep your father in check? Is that a joke? You know what he is like. If you think you can actually control him and the other Hightowers, you are an even bigger fool than I am, following you around like a lost puppy trying to get you to see me and to let me save you from the terrible fate you so desperately seek. Don't make excuses about trying to protect me. You are doing this to be acknowledged by your cunt of a father. Well, let me tell you one last thing: he is always going to demand more, and it will never be enough for him. You'd sacrifice your body, heart, soul, and life, and he'd still say it wasn't enough. He doesn't deserve your love, but you still choose him. Honestly, good luck. I'm so done trying to help you," Rhaenyra turned and left Alicent and her broken heart behind. The girl had called out to her, crying and trying to get her to understand, but all her prayers went unanswered as the girl she loved walked out of her life, leaving her with a shattered heart and soul.
Somehow, Havi managed to share Rhaenyra's pain, easing her own if only by a bit. She was lost for a while. Even flying didn't make her feel any better when it usually did. There was no choice left. Her father had already set his eyes on his daughter's former lover, refusing to realize his grave mistake or listen to her about it, leaving her with more resentment towards him. He didn't only take her mother away, but now the only person who had loved her and whom she loved in return.
The court had been very surprised by her new strange behavior. They blamed it on her presentation, saying how alphas had an awkward change. They did, in truth, which consisted of growing taller in a short amount of time, being affected by omega pheromones and acting irrationally, having anger towards everyone, and loving violence. Rhaenyra only got half of those. Her body had grown taller, her muscles started growing and gaining weight, and her eyes began having traces of gold in the irises, making her father and the maesters worry. It was like Odin's real form was starting to come through her. She didn't mind it though; she was comfortable. The changes didn't stop at her body though; her attitude had settled. She was calmer now, more in control, and her suggestions at council meetings were taken seriously and considered. It angered the Hand in so many ways. He tried to bring up her strange ritual of sitting down at the Weirwood tree, writing in a different strange language, and mostly talking to her raven many times. Her father didn't care about that. He was happy she was taking her duties as heir seriously. He wasn't happy when she brushed off the topic of her marriage though. No matter how strange she was, that was his only child and heir.
Havi had been making plans lately, now thankfully involving and telling her about them. Everything would start once Huginn came back, and as soon as he did, she needed to get permission from the king to travel the Seven Kingdoms. Havi wanted to find his 'lieutenants' or at least their weapons since he could sense Mjolnir's presence along with Freyr's sword. Many more must have fallen from the sky after Ragnarok, and they must be found before a stupid mortal tries to mess with powers they cannot understand.
Mjolnir always liked the cold and the chaos storms would bring. It must have landed either somewhere near Storm's End or, worse, north of the Wall since the hammer might be feeling mischievous. Freyr's sword, which belonged to Havi's brother-in-law, the god of fertility and growth, had so much personality and liked living in the warm sun, feeling it and growing its powers. Both Freyr and his sword were such romantics. It must be somewhere near Highgarden. It was, after all, where real flowers and beauty grow. There was no other place to be but there unless the sword finally lost its sense knowing its master is dead. Then maybe it became cursed and chose Old Town or some wretched place.
It will all have to wait till Huginn's return. Traveling the Seven Kingdoms wouldn't just give her the opportunity to get to know the other houses, the people, and stake her claim as the true-born heir; it'd also give her the chance to explore these beautiful regions. She was quite excited about finding Thor's hammer. Havi had told her much about his son: how his mother had been a giant whom he was enchanted with when he first visited Jötunheim, how Thor was the tremendous god of lightning and the skies, his huge frame, his brave loyal nature, his love for battle, strong drinks, and his lovely wife Lady Sif and their three children. It reminded Rhaenyra a bit of her uncle, only a little. They did share a temper, unpredictability, and bravery, but that's where the similarities ended.
Currently, she was getting her ass beat by a Valkyrie conjured in the mind palace. It was like her sword was merely a decoration; she couldn't even use it. The warrior's skin was almost made out of steel. All that progress beating the Kingsguard and other seasoned knights at record time, embarrassing them, had been for nothing. She still couldn't beat one of Odin's warriors. Maybe she was being too arrogant, saying how ready she was.
"Get up!" the Valkyrie screamed at her after she fell flat on her face on the dusty floor. She had no choice but to do as she said, thankful that this place allowed her to have infinite stamina but not protecting her from pain as Havi took that feature away.
This time with a plan, she stood her ground, fixing her position with a sword in hand, waiting for the warrior to make her first move. Hildr moved fast in her direction, so fast that she didn't have time to move her sword to try and get a hit before getting the breath knocked out of her when the warrior hit her with a huge heavy metal-like wing. The princess was once again on the ground on the other side of the field, a bit glad that Hildr didn't try to insult her by only using the wing to knock her out.
How in the world is she going to beat Brynhildr or Sigrún? They are going to eat her alive. At this point, she'd rather have Thor throw his hammer at her face again and again. She was sick of these damn wings! Havi told her she had to do it. Thor did, Baldur did too, and many other gods passed their Valkyrie training even if they weren't allowed to join because they were men. She had to do it too, to prove to everyone and herself that she could.
What comes after Valkyrie training? She truly didn't know, but she trusted that Havi knew what he was doing. When he was in control, he was truly the god he always was. His magic was glowing and his strength growing. She felt the same but also disconnected. She didn't want to count on his expertise and for him to always come and save her. She was a mature alpha who should be able to take care of herself, and for that Havi heavily agreed.
When she wasn't training with Hildr, the Einherjar, an army of dead champions, kept her busy. They were much easier to deal with than any other enemy. After this, she was going straight to the study to learn more about runes. Her life would be forever miserable.
She had learned not too long ago what exactly happened at Ragnarok. It made her sick to her stomach how many innocents had lost their lives and she understood exactly how much grief Odin had carried. All his children—Baldur, Thor, Vidar, Hodr, Hermod, and Vali— all his sons gone. Secretly, she wished his bloodline didn't bleed into hers so she could sire daughters. His friends Tyr and Heimdall and others all gone as well. His wife was the only one who had gone missing after Heimdall saved her life by closing the rainbow bridge while he was dying, a true brave hero. Asgard had burned to ash; nothing remained of it. He lost so much, and that pained Rhaenyra.
Notes:
Yo don't be mad at me, Shitty Viserys and Alicent are still gonna marry, but it's gonna be much more drama this time since Odin likes to have his fun and enjoys playing with people.
Nyra isn't gonna stay innocent and all times kind in this fic, because tbh Odin is amazing but he can be quite dark and dangerous, so of course our girl is gonna be very influenced by him.
We are getting much close to the stepstones, after vizzy's weeding our girl is gonna leave to find the two legendary weapons till she joins the war, she kinda has to, you will soon know why.
Syrax is still a brat and she will be getting bigger much faster this time around.
Hope you enjoyed this, what are your theories on what's gonna happen these upcoming chapters, see you guys soon! Take care!
