Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Stream Starts

[Steam activation required in order to provide live coverage analysis and feedback of experimental codename Spector to Solarian special forces research and development division 5.]

[Establishing connection with Solarian special forces research and development division 5.]

[Establishing… Establishing…]

[Connection failed]

"Oh, thank god," Adam said with relief.

[Searching for alternative stream connections to provide live coverage for analysis and feedback.]

[Searching… Searching…]

"Wait, wait, wait."

[Two stream locations detected.]

"Oh no, don't tell me."

[First stream location identified as a global communications network.]

"I knew it."

[Second stream location identified as universal subspace network.]

"WHAT!" Adam yelled, causing people to look down the alley he was in; however, because they could not see anyone down there, they started jumping to strange conclusions and hastily moved away.

"Stop, stop, you can't seriously suggest that I stream the murders I'm about to commit. I mean, what happens if something unforeseen happens and I get identified?"

[Potential operator does not need to be concerned with their identity being revealed, Spector's hyper-advanced artificial intelligence will prevent your identity from being revealed until you decide to reveal it.]

"Ok, then what about my targets? How can I hunt them down if they see the stream and know I'm coming for them?"

[Spector will automatically restrict stream access to any targets, those in the vicinity of said targets or those connected with said targets.]

"But why do I need to even stream in the first place?"

[Solarian research and development standard procedure is to provide a live video feed of any major activities the experiment partakes in for analysis and feedback.]

[However, since establishing a connection with Solarian special forces research and development division 5 was not possible, Spector had to find a valid alternative in order to provide a live video feed for analysis and feedback.]

"You do understand that people not from Solarian special whatever will be watching, right?"

[Affirmative, however, there is also the possibility that they will be watching and can provide analysis and feedback.]

[Linking uniband with global communications network and universal subspace network streaming platforms...]

[Link established.]

[Creating streamer account…]

[Creation complete. Stream account name: Codename S.P.E.C.T.O.R]

[Creating stream description..]

[Creation complete.]

[Releasing micro cams and Launching Stream]

After saying this, four small circular objects formed out of Adam's uniband before floating into the air and turning invisible to everyone other than Adam, who could still see their outlines via his HUD.

At the same time, an information window appeared on Adam's HUD.

[[Stream description below:]]

[[Stream Title: Spector's Revenge: Target 1 The Coroner]]

[[Mission Parameters: A coroner has been taking bribes to falsify autopsy reports with his latest falsification affecting the streamer.]]

[[Missions Goal: Eliminate The Coroner]]

It didn't take long for the first viewers to arrive, and surprisingly, it seemed they were from Earth.

[Forever1stCommenter (Earth): First]

[Noobkiller9000 (Earth): What the hell's this? Spectors' revenger, eliminate the coroner. Sounds like an elimination-type game, maybe stealth since it's called Spector.]

[Whostolemyduck (Earth): WTF 1st, how are you literally always first in every comment in every stream?]

[Forever1stCommenter (Earth): It is the way of the 1st to be 1st.]

[Whostolemyduck (Earth): Rigggghhhttt, anyway, Noob, I think you might be onto something, I mean, look how dark it is, it looks like an alleyway, but I can't see the character the streamer is playing, is this a cutscene?]

[Noobkiller9000 (Earth): It shouldn't be that the picture hasn't changed in several seconds now, and game creators need to keep things engaging so their audience doesn't get bored.]

[Whostolemyduck (Earth): True, though the streamer fucked up, he put this under the IRL category rather than the gaming category.]

[Forever1stCommenter (Earth): Why does my name have Earth in brackets? I don't like how I am not the pure Forever1stCommenter anymore.]

[Whostolemyduck (Earth): Yeah, that is strange, I have never seen anything like that.]

[Noobkiller9000 (Earth): Me neither.]

Adam could see the conversation that was going on between his three viewers as a new window had appeared in the corner of his HUD.

"So we're really doing this?" He asked with a sigh.

[Noobkiller9000 (Earth): Oh, finally something different.]

[Whostolemyduck (Earth): Doing what?]

[That's correct, potential operator, you are now live and the mission has begun.]

[Noobkiller9000 (Earth): Maybe this is a cutscene since there is only talking.]

[Whostolemyduck (Earth): Yeah, but damn that second voice lacked any kind of emotion.]

[Puntanghunter69 (Earth): It's here, I smell it.]

[Whostolemyduck (Earth): Oh god, not this degenerate.]

[Noobkiller9000 (Earth): That was obviously a female hunter, no need to point out the obvious.]

[Puntanghunter69 (Earth) If you're going to shorten my name, use Putang instead.]

[Noobkiller9000 (Earth): I refuse.]

[Whostolemyduck (Earth): Can we get back on topic here? Hey, stream, what sort of game is this supposed to be? It seems kind of lame so far.]

Adam couldn't think of a way to explain this situation, so in the end, he just sighed and started walking out of the alley.

As he left the dark alley and stepped out into the street, the sunlight hit him, and his stealth was disabled, and his appearance became visible on the stream.

[Whostolemyduck (Earth): Damn, that dark getup is sick, and look at his hood, it completely obscures his face.]

[Noobkiller9000 (Earth): The detailing on his clothing is unreal, and look at the NPCs walking along the street, they seem so lifelike.]

[Whostolemyduck (Earth): What engine is this game running off, I mean, look at the detailing on the buildings in the distance, along with the movement of the shadows, this is next-level stuff.]

Adam looked up at the apartments, and as his vision reached the fourth floor, the diamond indicator that was originally on his map now hovered near one of the windows and moved around it slightly as if the target was moving inside.

[Noobkiller9000 (Earth): The POV just changed to first person, check out that HUD.]

[SciFifanboy (Earth): I only came in here because dark and gritty sometimes means we are getting a cyberpunk theme, but damn, check out his HUD, that's so Scifi.]

"Well, if I have to do this, I may as well do it right, listen up, chat." Adam suddenly said.

[Noobkiller9000 (Earth): Oh, he speaks to us.]

[Whostolemyduck (Earth): Streamer, what's the deal with this game, and where can I buy it?]

"I have been reading the chat, and let me tell you this now, this ain't no game, this is the real deal. There is a man on the fourth floor of that apartment building who takes bribes and falsifies autopsy reports, and I'm going to kill him."

[Whostolemyduck (Earth): Sure, sure, but seriously, where can I buy this game?]

[Noobkiller9000 (Earth): Getting into a game is all good, streamer, but don't lose yourself in it; remember there is a difference between reality and virtual reality.]

The chat continued to doubt his claims that this was in fact real, so Adam decided to let his actions speak for themselves; after all, actions speak louder than words.

With his decision made, Adam made his way towards the apartment's entrance.

[Noobkiller9000 (Earth): He won't be able to get in that way]

[SciFifanboy (Earth): Why not?]

[Noobkiller9000 (Earth): That apartment complex looks like those found in Alamo City. If they are indeed based on that, then they will have an electronic lock on the door that requires a tenants pass to unlock.]

As Adam reached the door, he found that Noobkiller was right, as there was indeed an electronic lock requiring you to scan an access card to enter.

[Noobkiller9000 (Earth): Told you, better look for another way in streamer?]

[1000yearsofdeath (Earth): Maybe try garbage chute kekeke.]

Adam ignored them all and held his uniband up to the electronic lock.

[Whostolemyduck (Earth): What's he doing?]

Before anyone could answer Duck's question, the electronic lock beeped and showed a green light as the door unlocked.

[Forever1stCommenter (Earth): ???]

[Noobkiller9000 (Earth): ???]

[Whostolemyduck (Earth): ???]

[Puntanghunter69 (Earth): ???]

[1000yearsofdeath (Earth):???]

[SciFifanboy (Earth): That's so SciFi.]
