I arrive at the cafeteria where I'm supposed to meet Desmond a few minutes later—The Beanie House. I chose the location because it serves the best coffee and croissants I've ever tasted in New York, and because both Desmond and I need somewhere without public attention, at least someone recognizes him.
Not to forget that I needed a silent but busy environment for when things start getting awkward between us.
I don't want Desmond bringing up the past and how my life has been since he left me. It's bound to make me teary, and I tend to overshare a lot when asked a ton of questions under pressure. The last thing I need my lips doing anytime soon is telling Desmond all my past business, including how I dated three assholes over the years because they shared the same mannerisms as him.
I couldn't help myself, okay? He was my first crush, and probably the reason why every man I've ever had a crush on since college is affectionate and clingy.
