Chapter 258 - Chapter 258: Welcome to Earth-2149

"Reed? I have a bad feeling about this."

The Fantastic Four, having arrived at the Baxter Building on Earth-2149, were distinctly confused. The Baxter Building currently reeked of a retro 60s style, but that wasn't the main issue—different timelines in different universes are normal. The key was that it was pitch dark inside and permeated by a foul stench. Johnny felt instinctively uncomfortable—the surrounding environment looked extremely poor.

"Are you sure we've come to the right place?"

Johnny asked Reed with confusion. Reed himself became cautious and ran an analysis on the flying car's computer. "Undoubtedly, we have indeed arrived at the Baxter Building on Earth-2149. Satellite positioning shows no issues. Since that's the case, the only possibility is..."

Although he was reluctant to admit it, Reed Richards had to voice the most troubling possibility at that moment.

"The 'me' of this world deceived us and brought us here."

Reed hacked into this world's Baxter Building computer and satellites, projecting the data onto the flycar's screen. The hellish sight that appeared made the Fantastic Four gasp: countless white bones covered the Earth, and the active entities were clearly super-powered individuals. Both superheroes and supervillains were alive, but in a state of living corpse.

"So, we've arrived in a Resident Evil universe," Ben rubbed his non-existent temples, suddenly posing a question. "If that's the case, why aren't the 'Fantastic Corpses' here to eat?"

Reed's hand froze over the keyboard, and he took a deep breath.

"Oh no."

Earth-616, Baxter Building.

"Look at this place. It's much more advanced than our world," the zombie-fied Mister Fantastic said, looking around while savoring the scent of living humans wafting through the air. "A new world, only for us. We can fully enjoy all the fresh meat in this world."

"Enough, Reed!" the zombie Human Torch immediately cried out in a tantrum. "I want meat! Fresh meat! Where's the fresh meat!"

"Fresh meat is everywhere, Johnny. Let me see... it's advanced, but limitedly so..."

Zombie Reed muttered, opening the computer. He then cleared his throat and summoned a batch of security guards working in the Baxter Building. They arrived on call, like a delivery.

When these poor guards opened the door to the top floor of the Baxter Building and saw the zombified Fantastic Four, their screams and wails didn't even get out before they became a feast for the Fantastic Zombies.

However, as they were feeding, they didn't notice a small, square-headed robot observing their every move, processing the logical inconsistencies, and uploading the data to the central computer for analysis.

Meanwhile, unlike Peter, who used an internship as an excuse to travel the Multiverse, Amadeus Cho was genuinely interning at the Baxter Building. The tech exhibition in Puerto Rico two days ago certainly interested him, and the US military had offered generous terms to the students, but Amadeus wasn't tempted.

He was cleverly hiding himself, pretending to be a regular high school student, learning knowledge he already knew, and not exposing his true intellect. All of this was for self-preservation.

Even interning at the Baxter Building was a form of self-protection; working for the smartest person in the world would undoubtedly mask his own brilliance. Plus, the Fantastic Four were much more trustworthy than the U.S. government.

"Alright, let's see what strange new topic Mr. Richards assigned last week. What is this?"

Amadeus rubbed his head, seeing a strange program running on the computer. It seemed to be the analysis program for Reed's robot assistant, H.E.R.B.I.E., which was inexplicably running at high speed.

Was Reed Richards conducting some strange research? No, that didn't make sense; his own analysis speed wasn't necessarily slower than H.E.R.B.I.E.'s. Amadeus muttered to himself as he opened the program, then saw a shocking sight: the Fantastic Four had all turned into zombies and were gnawing on the corpses of the Baxter Building's security personnel. Amadeus stumbled and sat on the floor, then quickly scrambled back up.

What should he do now?

Issue an evacuation order? Issuing an evacuation order would definitely alert all floors, and he might not be able to escape. It would be better to run before anyone noticed, while simultaneously notifying Peter...

Amadeus Cho's hand pressed the computer's microphone.

"Attention all Baxter Building employees, attention all Baxter Building employees!" Amadeus directly opened the continuous channel to the Web-Slinger base (Spider-Base) and simultaneously bypassed the Baxter Building's external security protocol to activate the emergency evacuation system: "The Fantastic Four have turned into man-eating zombies. This is not a joke. Repeat, this is not a joke! Everyone evacuate immediately!"

H.E.R.B.I.E.'s recording was transmitted to all screens in the Baxter Building. Then, Amadeus grabbed his cell phone and started running downstairs. He didn't choose the elevator; taking the stairs would be safer now.

Zombie Reed, hearing the broadcast, raised his blood-soaked head in confusion and looked around. He finally spotted H.E.R.B.I.E. After tossing the small robot aside, Zombie Reed began to forcibly lock down the entire Baxter Building to keep all the fresh meat inside.

But unexpectedly, his actions were blocked. Someone had accessed the Baxter Building's security system and was preventing him from locking down the entire building.

How interesting.

"There's a top-tier hacker working in the Baxter Building. Johnny, Ben, eat him," Reed said, continuing his work. He was about three-quarters full, and his intelligence had reclaimed the high ground. He didn't mind playing with this little hacker.

He looked at the security guards' corpses. The Fantastic Zombies had been eating haphazardly, causing quite a few security personnel to turn into zombies themselves. Zombie Reed said with mild annoyance, "Blow that guy's head off. Susan, we don't need dead weight dividing our food."

However, Amadeus, who was both fighting with Zombie Reed on his phone and descending the stairs, was utterly shocked when he saw the Zombie Human Torch burst out in flames on the security camera feed.

"You've got to be kidding me!"

A zombie that could retain its original intelligence and even its superpowers—how was he supposed to play this game?

Realizing the nature of these two super-powered zombies, Amadeus abandoned his plan to escape through the exit. He had to think of another way to save himself.
