Kang the Conqueror possessed the Time Stone, one of the Infinity Stones. Even if the Time Stone could only be used by him within the Soul Stone's pocket universe, its uses were still diverse. For example, he could manufacture countless versions of himself from different timelines, creating enough temporal residue to overwhelm the superheroes with sheer numbers. After all, Kang's supply was infinite, while the heroes' stamina would eventually run out.
It was embarrassing, perhaps, but it was practical.
Of course, Kang the Conqueror didn't rely solely on throwing bodies at the problem. He hid, waiting for the enemy to come to him. As long as the Prime Kang holding the Time Stone remained alive, he could generate as many Kangs as he needed.
So, as Peter and the others advanced toward the area where Mar-Vell had spotted Kang via his monitor, it seemed there was only one ordinary Kang attempting to hack into a Kree Empire space station with his advanced technology. In reality, countless Kangs lurked in the darkness. Reed stepped forward, raising his voice to interrogate the Kang before them: "Kang the Conqueror, your plan is already—"
Before he could finish, Rocket fired a rocket launcher, obliterating the Kang into dust. He then looked up at the stunned heroes and shrugged nonchalantly. "What, did you guys have something you wanted to ask him?"
"Actually, if you have something to ask me, I'm always available."
Kang the Conqueror appeared with a look of disdain that he somehow found the nerve to display. Behind him stood an endless, army-sized procession of Conqueror Kangs, who swarmed toward the heroes. Everyone was momentarily taken aback. Then, the Human Torch raised his hand.
Flames instantly covered the entire area, but the Conqueror Kangs were completely unharmed by the fire, as if nothing had touched them. Kang was about to boast about his advanced 31st-century battle armor when the Human Torch transformed into a colossal fireball and plunged right into the mass of Kangs, using an explosion to instantly wipe out nearly all of them.
"There's nothing high heat can't solve. If it doesn't work, it just means you didn't burn hard enough."
Johnny Storm tossed his hair back with a flourish, only to be met by his sister's roar: "Johnny! You blew a hole in the space station!"
The flames on the Human Torch, along with the air in the space station, were sucked into the vacuum. He was nearly dragged out himself. Adam was about to escort everyone out when the flying Mar-Vell used his universal wristbands to create a spray that temporarily sealed the breach, plugging the gap. Korvac was right behind him. Then, Korvac woke up, and the entire pocket universe vanished.
"Thanks, pal, but... why didn't you just let your pocket universe collapse? That would've been easier for us."
Johnny, who was reigniting his flames, shrugged helplessly. Mar-Vell's answer was simple and direct: "Occupational habit."
"Alright, guys." Peter looked at the cleared pocket universe and the countless vanquished Conqueror Kangs littering the ground, sighing. "Good news: only one Conqueror Kang has the Time Stone. Bad news: there are countless Conqueror Kangs here."
Worse news: every single one of them was holding a weapon that could wipe out Korvac.
Korvac merely glanced around, seemed to understand something, and vanished instantly. The countless Kang beams struck only air. Peter quickly asked, "Where did Korvac go?"
"Into Colonel Carol Danvers' pocket universe. That's the only one left."
"So... besides us and Kang, there's no one left here?" Peter clenched his fists, then smiled. "Well, everyone, get ready for a fight. Let's take out every Kang that shows up!"
Korvac arrived in the only surviving pocket universe, that of Carol Danvers. In a way, this one was the most unique. Only Carol and Gwen were entirely ordinary people, and because Gwen was protected by Venom, she couldn't be brought into her own pocket universe, forcing the pocket universe to create a false Gwen.
So, what was the life of an ordinary person really like?
Korvac was curious and began to peek. He found that many people in the pocket universes were seeking an ordinary life where they didn't need power. The Thing was like this, Star-Lord was like this, and so were Rocket, Gamora, Drax, and even Mar-Vell.
Even Gwen's thoughts, due to her proximity to others, weren't entirely those of a typical person.
So, what was a true ordinary person like?
Korvac grew curious and began to peer into Carol's life. He erased his own presence, much like Kang the Conqueror, and quietly stood on the side. He started to organize his chaotic thoughts while observing Carol's ideal life.
Carol Danvers, an ordinary person, a dreamer. Her greatest lifelong wish was to be a pilot, preferably one who flew cutting-edge fighters capable of breaking the atmosphere. Her perfect world naturally inherited this. Her husband, Professor Michael Rossi, helped the military achieve this goal by developing a new generation of hypersonic fighters.
"Shh, quiet, she's asleep."
They have a daughter, Korvac thought, which must also be part of Carol's wish. But there seemed to be more to it. She and her husband began discussing all sorts of trivial matters: which amusement park to take their child to, how to celebrate their wedding anniversary, or which relative was going through what trouble.
Korvac simply hovered in the air, quietly observing. He had witnessed too many heroes' worlds, and this one...
...was no different.
"They're all the same," Korvac muttered to himself, reaching his conclusion. Heroes and ordinary people, scientists and the ignorant—they were fundamentally no different. Their souls had no high or low distinction. They still experienced joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness. The scale might differ, but emotionally, they were the same.
But Kang the Conqueror believed he was different.
He believed himself to be supreme, to be unique. Korvac recalled his own past, which was this world's future, a possibility.
He saw Kang the Conqueror opening a spatial rift to another universe, saw that rift being restrained, and saw himself being born. Then, Kang the Conqueror raised the incomplete Cosmic Cube, the one whose personality had yet to be born, and declared:
"The Kang Dynasty has come."
"No! No! No!"
Carol's perfect world was instantly destroyed. The violent energy of the Cosmic Cube poured out in that moment.
