Chapter 147 - Chapter 147: The Web Gods

Hammer Falls, Tonya's Auto Shop.

Due to Peter and Wade's arrival in this universe, the sequence of some events went awry. Old Hawkeye had previously taken Peter and his companions to take down the Wasteland Hulk. Bullseye, Red Skull's top assassin, who discovered Hawkeye had wiped out Multiple Man, had already killed Hawkeye's former employer and tracked him all the way to his ex-wife's house.

His goal was simple: to experience the joy of killing a superhero one last time before he died. So, once he confirmed Hawkeye could still put up a fight, he eagerly rushed over. Unfortunately, Hawkeye wasn't at his ex-wife's house. Still, Bullseye was determined to find out Hawkeye's whereabouts.

So he stood there quietly, waiting. Then, a mixed-race little girl walked out of the auto shop and stood in front of Bullseye.

"Are you some kind of pervert, staring at my house?"

"Relax, little girl, I'm just looking for your dad." His transplanted bionic eye displayed her identity information: "Is he home?"

"This isn't his home. He only comes around here every few years when he makes my mom mad."

The bionic eye's lie detector showed the little girl was telling the truth, which disappointed Bullseye a little. He pulled out a steel fork, intending to play a "friendly" joke with the girl. Just then, his bionic eye rapidly alerted him to a surge in nearby energy. Suddenly, he saw a red vortex appear out of thin air, and a person stepped out of it. Almost before Bullseye could react, heavy machine gun fire raked his body, turning him into a bloody pulp.

The little girl, Hawkeye's daughter Ash Barton, looked in astonishment at the man who emerged from the vortex. He wore heavy, high-tech armor, painted in a red and blue combination. Ash had seen this kind of outfit before, at home; there was an old Spider-Man costume with the same color scheme.

Who was this person?

"I am War-Spider, from the Web Legion that spans the Multiverse." War-Spider raised his right hand. Clearly visible on the gauntlet of his power armor was a ring on his middle finger, inside of which was a vibrant, moving spider.

"Ash Barton of Earth-21923, you possess the potential to break moral shackles and conquer your universe. I invite you to join the Web Legion."

"What?"

"Get away from her!"

Hawkeye, returning home, witnessed all of this. His eyes widened in fury, and he drew his bow and notched an arrow. But Peter was even faster. His Spider-Sense, at that moment, screamed more terrifyingly than it had when facing Wasteland Hulk. In an instant, he brought Venom with him for a flying kick, sending War-Spider sprawling.

War-Spider had initially intended to open fire, but upon seeing who attacked him and receiving the information from his Spider-Lantern Ring, he was greatly shocked.

"You are not the Spider-Totem of this world, nor are you a member of the Legion. How did you come to this universe?"

"I was wondering why this universe was causing the Web of Destiny to tremble. How about you tell me first, what exactly is your Legion?"

Peter controlled Venom to rip out War-Spider's arc reactor from his chest. Losing his power source, War-Spider raised his right hand at the last moment. The Spider-Lantern Ring flashed, and a red vortex appeared behind him, about to envelop him. At this moment, Deadpool yelled, "Baby throwing knife!" and tossed an adamantium dagger, which embedded itself in War-Spider's forehead.

Both Hawkeye and Peter turned to look at him.

"What? He's from a powerful legion, wearing a lantern ring, going around the universe recruiting strange Spider-Men to join them, and then they recite an oath." Deadpool looked at them. "Don't you think they deserve a stab?"

Earth-51821, Web Legion headquarters.

The Web Legion is a multiverse-spanning organization. Its purpose is to help Spider-Totems who are unwilling to be heroes and are unburdened by morality to conquer their own universes. This organization was founded by two powerful totems who had conquered their own universes, and later, three more Spider-Totems who had conquered their universes single-handedly joined.

Within the Web Legion, these powerful totems who could conquer their universes by themselves are called the Web Gods. The Web Gods possess the means to traverse the multiverse, and they create Spider-Lantern Rings for their members to invade more multiverses.

Of course, to avoid, or rather, delay, the heroic Spider-Men from discovering them and forming an opposing organization, the Web Legion does not recruit Spider-Totems with heroic tendencies.

But despite such caution, accidents still happened.

When War-Spider's body returned to the Earth-51821 headquarters, he also brought back relevant information. This visual data recorded by his armor was not uploaded to the information headquarters but was intercepted by the Web Gods.

"It seems another Spider-Man has mastered the ability to traverse the multiverse."

The Web God speaking was a Spider-Totem completely covered in a black symbiotic exocostume. In his universe, he replaced Knull, the God of Symbiotes, becoming the new Symbiote God, but he couldn't restrain the ideological corruption of his universe's Venom, thus assimilating his world.

"This shouldn't be using technology or anyone else's power. I felt the power of destiny from him."

Phoenix-Spider burned with flames. She was Jean Grey from a certain universe. After being bitten by a radioactive spider, she awakened her mutant and spider abilities. Then the Phoenix Force found her, and she eventually became the Dark Phoenix.

The gods then looked at the giant lantern in the sky. Imprisoned within it was Karl King from a certain universe. He had consumed his entire universe, becoming the Spider-Swarm, but even the Web Gods, who were not good people themselves, disdained to associate with Karl King and instead trapped his consciousness within a specific spider's body, turning him into a Lantern Beast, used for traversing the multiverse.

As a side note, this idea was proposed by another absent Web God, Spider-Pool. He was Wade Wilson from a certain universe. While seeking a cure for cancer, he was bitten by a spider, gaining a healing factor and spider abilities, as well as the ability to infect others through bodily fluids. He unleashed a biochemical crisis in his universe and conquered it.

"That's the Patriarch."

Finally, a clearly African Spider-Totem spoke. He wore traditional African tribal attire. As he spoke, he caught a spider that had split off from Karl King.

He was Anansi, the god of lies and stories in Akan mythology, and the world's first Spider-Totem.

"I will bring him back, or stop him."
