Chapter 136 - Chapter 136: Spider-Man: Clad in Black

Peter Parker had never felt so energized. He felt like his energy would never run out. What's more, with a single swing, he'd leap nearly a kilometer through the air. Coupled with the gliders Venom simulated, one web-swing could almost traverse the entire width of Manhattan.

However, this Venom didn't have the various shapeshifting abilities of the Marvel's Spider-Man game version. Instead, it was more like the movie version of Venom—basic but effective.

[You are strong.]

In contrast, that was the symbiote Venom's own, well, symbiote's feeling. Symbiotes could greatly enhance a host's overall attributes, but not all hosts could perfectly withstand a symbiote. This was also why many of Hydra's experiments failed; the test subjects they found couldn't perfectly synchronize with the symbiote and would ultimately be consumed.

But Peter Parker could perfectly adapt to the symbiote, and he was already strong himself, leading to an even greater amplification. This made Venom even more confident; though it was weak alone, its host was strong, and their combined power might not be weaker than other symbiotes, perhaps even stronger.

"Thanks, buddy. I didn't realize you were so powerful, holding up an entire lab and rescuing everyone."

Landing on the glass facade of a tall building, Peter looked at his black-clad self, then at Harlem in Manhattan. Sirens blared there, the battle between the Defenders and Viper Security Company was far from over.

Perfect, he could go help out.

Launching a web line, Peter moved swiftly. He saw the smoke and dust rising from the ongoing battle between the Defenders and Viper Security and quickly swung towards it.

At this moment, the Defenders were clashing with Viper Security Company. It wasn't even much of a struggle. Most of the Viper Security employees who had rushed to join the fight weren't super-soldiers. After all, those failed super-soldiers not only had questionable combat effectiveness but also poor appearances. Viper Security Company still wanted to appear as a legitimate mercenary company, so it was better not to trot out these "ugly melons and split dates."

However, they had indeed brought out armored vehicles and assault rifles.

"Don't kill him, Frank!" Kicking two enemies down in mid-air, Daredevil spun around and kicked another enemy in the head. Then he whipped out his billy club, broke a man's arm, and retrieved it.

The Punisher merely shot the security guard under his foot in the wrist and leg, then, with a backhand, plunged a dagger into the throat of an enemy charging with an electric baton.

"Don't worry, Red, he just passed out."

Luke Cage withstood the bombardment of infantry cannons with his bare body, then charged towards a wheeled armored vehicle and flipped it over. Behind him, Iron Fist leaped,蹬ing off a wall a few times before kicking off again, smashing an armed helicopter out of the sky with a single punch, then safely pulling the pilot down from high altitude. Jessica Jones, meanwhile, gently lowered another helicopter by its tail rotor. The security company soldiers weren't fools; seeing the rapidly spinning propellers approaching, they all fled.

"We've been fighting for almost an hour," Luke Cage said, easily tearing apart a soldier's bulletproof vest and sending him flying. "How much longer do we have to fight?"

"Didn't you hear it?"

Jessica Jones, who had just punched someone flying, retorted to Daredevil, "Hear what?"

"The sound of swinging webs."

The black-suited Spider-Man descended from the sky, kicking up thick dust. He half-crouched on the ground, his hands pressed to the concrete. Everyone looked at Daredevil, and finally, Luke Cage couldn't help but comment.

"Who can hear the sound of web-swinging?!"

The battle instantly paused. Everyone stared at the black-clad Spider-Man, half-crouching motionless on the ground, wondering what was wrong with him. It wasn't until Rattler, the commander of this unit, stood up. "Spider-Man, we are executing a government contract, please leave immediately!"

"Oh, about that, I just wanted to say that your little club underwater is finished. We found a lot of eyewitnesses and physical evidence."

Spider-Man, still crouched, added, "And so are you."

The black symbiote had spread onto the nearby ground and building surfaces. Black tendrils erupted from the ground and walls, instantly covering several hundred meters, knocking down all Viper Security personnel in one go and sticking them to the walls. The surrounding hundreds of meters became a black symbiote hellscape, tangled together, looking like something out of a horror movie set.

Once he confirmed everyone was knocked out, Peter had Venom retract all its tendrils. Looking at the downed, incapacitated security personnel, Luke Cage remained silent for a moment before looking at his own hands. "I was going to ask if the Avengers were still recruiting."

"Welcome to the 'Avengers' Unwanted Misfit League'," Jessica shook her head, while Peter stood up. Rattler, playing dead on the ground, understood what had happened. Although he didn't know how Spider-Man could control the symbiote, he knew its weaknesses. So he secretly placed his hand on the ultrasonic switch of his dagger.

Then, he was instantly ensnared by a symbiote arm extended from Spider-Man, lifted into the air, and slammed heavily onto the ground. His dagger was snatched away by Spider-Man and crushed into a pile of scrap metal in his hand.

He hadn't even had time to get up before Luke Cage pulled him to his feet. Cage looked at his old acquaintance who had framed him and thrown him into prison, and smiled. "Hello there, old friend."

"Carl, you know, I always…"

Luke Cage delivered a headbutt, knocking Rattler unconscious, then tossed him to the ground. He'd settle the score later.

"Is everything resolved?"

"Half resolved. Their commander activated a self-destruct sequence the moment we entered. I only managed to rescue people from the bottom of the Hudson River. But we have eyewitnesses and physical evidence—the wreckage of the lab at the bottom of the Hudson River can't be hidden."

"Oh, and this new suit I'm wearing? This is actually an alien life form they found, a symbiote. Venom, say hello to everyone?"

Venom's head peeled back from Peter's, revealing its sharp fangs. "Greetings."

"That's certainly… not adorable."

Ignoring Jessica Jones's comment, the symbiote looked at Peter. "Can't I really eat these people? They seem like bad guys."

"We agreed no eating people, buddy."

"Then I want enough chocolate."

Author's Note: As is widely known, the Viper gang in the comics is a villainous organization. Here, it has been changed to a security company, just a different disguise.

The Viper gang in the EMH animation looked rather odd.
