Chapter 135 - Chapter 135: I Am Spider-Man, You Are Venom

Light, memory, brightness.

The black symbiote spread in silence. Typically, each time it encountered a new host, it would share their memories and understand their past. But this time was different; the mind of this host, dressed in strange clothing, seemed to be protected by something.

It seemed to be a giant… spider?

The symbiote didn't think much of it. It simply continued to spread and cover the host's entire body, following its instincts.

[I know you have your own thoughts.]

The symbiote was startled. It didn't know why this host would say such a thing in its mind. Did he truly know what it was doing, or was he just talking to himself?

The symbiote remained silent, continuing its symbiotic state, pretending to be just an alien slime creature without independent consciousness.

But the voice sounded again.

[I know you're observing me. You are… a symbiote, at least that's what they call you.]

?

The symbiote fell silent. The view before it suddenly brightened. The symbiote transformed into the giant, viscous creature it usually became after possessing others. And what appeared before it was a small human, only about half its height.

This was the little human's inner world.

He wore a red and blue suit, but no mask, and extended a hand towards it.

"Nice to meet you? I'm Peter Parker."

The symbiote's eyes narrowed. It opened its mouth, revealing its sharp fangs, then extended its tongue, licking its teeth.

Peter Parker seemed a little afraid, but not terribly so, which was strange.

The symbiote silently watched him.

"Are you okay?"

Peter said, "Coming here from another planet, with no others of your kind, being caught and experimented on in a lab… This isn't your world. You must be very scared, right?"

The symbiote remained silent, but it bent down, looking at Peter.

"No, we are not afraid of humans."

"Nor afraid of loneliness?"

"…"

The symbiote fell silent. It thought of when it arrived in this world with that meteorite—a pure, new world, full of humans. Besides the five of them, there were no other symbiotes.

It could be stubborn and say it wasn't afraid of human torment, but loneliness?

Different images suddenly appeared around them—the memories of this small human. Unlike others, this little human helped his own kind without seeking any reward.

"You want to save them." The symbiote understood why Peter Parker had released it. It was simple; even if Peter didn't talk to it, it could still do all of this after bonding with him.

But he wanted to talk to it.

"I want to save them, and you can save them too. Do you… want to be a superhero?"

What was a superhero?

It didn't understand the concept. From Peter Parker's memories, combined with its own thoughts, it began to try and understand as much as possible.

Hero, are those who use their power to help and save others. It didn't understand; the symbiote had no concept of this.

Super, extraordinary, unique, amazing.

Its eyes lit up.

It was a very ordinary, even weak, member of its species. It wasn't super, but if it was with this person, it could become super.

"If we save people together, we can become superheroes?"

Peter smiled and nodded. "Yes."

"Can I eat people's brains? Even if it's just the bad guys you mentioned."

"Uh…" Peter paused, then shook his head. "I don't think so. For Earthlings, that's a bit too hard to accept."

"But I need phenethylamine, lots and lots of phenethylamine." The symbiote stated its price: "If no brains, I need several times the amount of chocolate."

Alright, Tony Stark would pay for that.

"So, it's a deal?"

"One last thing." The symbiote finally grasped Peter's hand. "A name. I have no name. A unique, extraordinary name."

"A dangerous spider attacks its opponents with venom. I am Spider-Man, and you are Venom."

All this mental conversation happened in mere seconds. Within those few seconds, the symbiote had already covered Spider-Man's body, but it didn't seize his consciousness. Instead, it merged with his suit, transforming into a pure black Spider-Man suit with only white eye lenses.

Explosions erupted from all directions. The lab's ceiling had collapsed and cracked, and the Hudson River's water began to pour in. The now black-suited Spider-Man, under the gaze of others, reached out towards the crack in the ceiling.

Instantly, massive black gelatinous tentacles directly covered and propped up the entire ceiling. The symbiote covered the crack, blocking the river water from pouring in. Peter, supporting the entire lab, turned to look at Felicia: "Is everyone here?"

"Not many left, only a dozen survivors. They should all be here." Felicia looked at Peter in his black suit. "Are you… alright?"

"Pretty good. We talked it out. I'm Spider-Man, and it's Venom."

The side wall of the lab also began to explode, and the wall crashed towards them. Peter extended his other hand, and infinitely extending black claws deflected the debris. Then he shouted for everyone to gather closer.

In the crowd, he naturally saw Cloak, Dagger, and Mister Negative, who couldn't control their powers.

"After today's events are over, you all need to come to Avengers Tower for a check-up. Don't worry, we don't charge."

Peter said, shouting to the surroundings, "Is everyone here?! If you're all here, remember not to forget to breathe in a bit."

The symbiote continuously extended from behind him, quickly forming a massive sphere that enveloped all the survivors. Then he retracted his arms, and the entire lab began to collapse completely in the explosions.

A wave rose above the Hudson River due to the explosion. Then, people on both sides of the river saw black biomass tentacles shooting skyward. These tentacles latched onto the shore, bringing Spider-Man, Black Cat, and all the survivors ashore from the riverbed.

Peter retracted all the tentacles. Venom on his body didn't have that obvious biomass feel; instead, it looked like a sleek black combat suit.

"I contacted the Avengers' Quinjet. J.A.R.V.I.S. will take you to Avengers Tower." Peter took out his phone to make arrangements, then looked at Felicia: "I need to go help Matt and them. Can you take care of these people?"

"Yes." Felicia said, stepping back and looking at Peter's new suit: "So… just plain black? No decorations at all?"

"Wait, I think there can be."

Peter first had Venom simulate the suit's web patterns, like the black suit in the movies, but felt it was a bit strange, so he changed it to large white spider emblems on the front and back of the suit.

"How does it look?"

"Very cool." Felicia smiled. "And it matches my suit too."

"Oh… I hadn't thought of that."

Peter said, backing away, watching the Quinjet land. He nodded at Felicia: "See you later. I'll be done soon."
