Shinoa Hīragi spoke at length, but Aoki remained silent, leaving it unclear whether he'd even listened. Yūichirō Hyakuya and the others returned after defeating the Four Horsemen.
Afterwards, Shinoa Hīragi and Mitsuba Sangū made a new vial of mixed blood for Mikaela Hyakuya.
Mikaela Hyakuya leaned against the wall as Yūichirō Hyakuya approached, handing him the vial. "Although I said that earlier, you don't have to drink if you don't want to. If you want to drink my blood..."
BeforeYūichirō Hyakuya could finish, Mikaela Hyakuya interrupted. "No, I won't drink Yūichirō Hyakuya's blood again. My bloodlust is growing; if I don't drink, I'll eventually drain Yūichirō Hyakuya to death."
Mikaela Hyakuya opened the vial and drank the blood.
Afterwards, he added, "It's not poisoned."
Yūichirō Hyakuya replied, "Of course not. We're comrades."
"Yūichirō Hyakuya," Mikaela Hyakuya said, "What if this 'comrade' act is just another experiment? I know they're kind, but can they really be trusted? Have you really thought about that?"
As Mikaela Hyakuya spoke, Yoichi Saotome and the others approached. "Um, Mikaela, is our blood really alright?"
"It tastes awful," Mikaela Hyakuya bluntly stated.
Shinoa Hīragi looked surprised. "Really?! That's impossible! It shouldn't taste bad! It's pure virgin blood! Unless...non-virgin blood was mixed in?!"
She looked at Mitsuba Sangū, who panicked. "Why are you looking at me?! I'm a—"
Before Mitsuba Sangū could finish, Shinoa Hīragi retorted, "Mitsuba's promiscuity aside..."
"What are you talking about?! I'll kill you!" Mitsuba Sangū raged.
Ignoring Mitsuba Sangū, Shinoa Hīragi continued, "We need to discuss our future now that we've left the Japanese Imperial Demon Army. We talked about it yesterday, but Yūichirō Hyakuya and Mikaela Hyakuya weren't there, so we reached no conclusion. Mitsuba, remind us of the conditions before we begin."
"Why me? Let me see...," Mitsuba Sangū said. "1. The Japanese Imperial Demon Army conducted suspicious experiments on Yūichirō Hyakuya, Yoichi Saotome, Shiho Kimizuki, and her sister Mirai Kimizuki; 2. The Hīragi family, in the name of the greater good, can kill comrades without hesitation; approaching them now is extremely dangerous; 3. But continuing to run isn't a solution; the Japanese Imperial Demon Army won't let us go."
"They'll send pursuers. This place is dangerous and could endanger the village. We should leave, but where do we go? Overseas might be a good option, but humans can't cross the ocean. The world's destruction poisoned the seas, and there are monsters far stronger than the Four Horsemen everywhere."
"We can't go overseas; there's nowhere to escape, but the pursuers will keep coming. We might repel them a few times, but only if we have demon-enhancing drugs left. Once we run out, we can't defeat the vampires or the Four Horsemen. Plus, Yūichirō Hyakuya's demon possession needs treatment, which only the Japanese Imperial Demon Army can provide. If Aoki were at full strength, we could confront them, but he's still recovering. We can't fight the Japanese Imperial Demon Army."
"In other words, our only option is surrender..."
Mitsuba Sangū's voice trailed off.
"Don't joke. I won't hand Yūichirō Hyakuya over to the humans," Mikaela Hyakuya immediately countered. He wouldn't hand Yūichirō Hyakuya over to either humans or vampires.
"Then do you have any better ideas? If you have any suggestions, please tell us," Mitsuba Sangū asked. Mikaela Hyakuya hadn't offered any suggestions besides not handing Yūichirō Hyakuya over.
After a pause, Mikaela Hyakuya said, "Krul Tepes, the third progenitor and my queen, is conducting fallen angel experiments. She might be trustworthy, but she's been captured by other vampires. We don't know her condition, and rescuing the queen might be easier than handing Yūichirō Hyakuya over to the humans."
"You mean the Japanese Imperial Demon Army is more dangerous than the vampires?" Shinoa Hīragi asked.
Mikaela Hyakuya nodded. "Yes, because vampires aren't interested in humans, except for your blood. Compared to vampires, humans are far more terrifying. You'll do anything for power."
Everyone agreed.
Shiho Kimizuki: "I agree. Besides the people here, I trust no one."
Mitsuba Sangū: "Same here."
Yoichi Saotome: "Yeah, that's right."
Shinoa Hīragi: "The Japanese Imperial Demon Army is the most dangerous organization in Japan. I agree with Mikaela Hyakuya."
"So, the conclusion is," Shinoa Hīragi stated, "our next goal is to rescue the vampire queen before Yūichirō Hyakuya becomes a demon. Any objections?"
"Let's do it!"Yūichirō Hyakuya shouted. His stomach growled, causing everyone to laugh.
From afar, Aoki watched the renewed determination of the group, a relieved smile on his face. For three months, he'd been pondering their next move. This world was far more complex than the Demon Slayer world; strength wasn't everything. Even overwhelming power didn't guarantee success, a fact reinforced by the Nagoya battle.
Furthermore, after the Nagoya battle, Aoki received another system reward.
He'd considered upgrading his Susanoo, but hesitated. After obtaining the Rinnegan, he realized his strength and chosen skills were disproportionate.
In short, he couldn't fully utilize the Rinnegan at his current level, and the same was true for a fully upgraded Susanoo.
He chose a new skill. As for what skill...
Suddenly, he sensed something, his gaze shifting.
"Someone's coming..."
