"Infinity Castle, Fire and Thunder God"
Zenitsu Agatsuma's fists were clenched so tight that blood welled up. He had never been this furious.
"Grandpa wasn't senile! If I'm trash, then you're garbage! He chose only me, who can only use the First Form, and you, who can't use the First Form, as inheritors. Is there anyone in the world more pathetic than Grandpa?!"
Kaigaku roared back, "Don't compare me to trash like you!"
Kaigaku's body crackled with lightning as he launched a lightning-fast attack, his blade a blur as he closed the distance.
"Thunder Breathing, Fourth Form: Distant Thunder!"
However, this seemingly flawless attack was effortlessly evaded by Zenitsu, who moved with impossible speed. While dodging, Zenitsu landed a powerful blow on Kaigaku's neck.
"Too slow, garbage," Zenitsu sneered. Kaigaku despised Zenitsu, so even though Zenitsu was stronger, he wouldn't kill him quickly. He would savor the torment, letting Kaigaku witness his defeat at the hands of the "trash" he scorned.
Seeing the deep gash on his neck, Kaigaku was shocked. "I was hit? How fast! This guy… he's completely different from before!"
Fear gripped Kaigaku, who had previously dismissed Zenitsu. He feared the humiliation of being killed by the very person he considered a weakling.
He couldn't lose! He absolutely couldn't lose! He wouldn't die at the hands of this weakling!
He recalled becoming a demon.
He had encountered Upper Moon One, Kokushibo, the strongest of the Twelve Kizuki. Without even fighting, Kaigaku knew Kokushibo's power far surpassed his own, even exceeding that of the Hashira. No Hashira could defeat him, let alone Kaigaku, who wasn't even a Hashira yet.
He chose to submit to Kokushibo, repeating his philosophy to himself.
"Submitting to a superior foe isn't shameful. As the ancients said, 'A living dog is better than a dead lion.' As long as I live, I haven't lost. Even if I have to grovel, even if I'm homeless, even if I have to drink mud and endure insults for stealing, I believe that as long as I live, I can overcome hardship and prove myself. Thanks to this philosophy, I've survived until today."
Kokushibo extended a hand.
"Do you wish to become a demon to gain greater power? With the Master's approval, you can join us. The stronger the swordsman, the longer the transformation takes. I took three days. Swordsmen who can control Breathing Techniques, who are determined to become demons, require a large amount of the Master's blood."
Kokushibo dripped blood from his hand into Kaigaku's palm.
"Among these swordsmen, a few are physically incapable of becoming demons. Which will you be? This blood is precious; not a drop can be wasted. If you dare spill it, your head and body will be separated amidst a shower of blood."
Kaigaku drank the blood.
"It was a terror that made every cell in my body scream. Compared to that, this blonde is nothing. No matter how much he's improved, he can't match an Upper Moon. Zenitsu is trash. Always crying, lacking self-respect and willpower. That old fool made me share the inheritance of Thunder Breathing with this waste!"
"In short, you and your master… you both deserve to die!"
Kaigaku attacked again.
"Thunder Breathing, Second Form: Rice Spirit!"
Kaigaku moved swiftly, unleashing a lightning-fast five-hit combo.
Zenitsu's reflexes were sharp; he dodged effortlessly. However, Kaigaku's attack put some pressure on him.
"A five-hit combo in an instant. You've consumed many people! Have you lost your sense of right and wrong?!"
Kaigaku sneered, "Of course I can distinguish between good and evil."
He launched another attack.
"Thunder Breathing, Third Form: Thunder Swarm!"
Kaigaku spun rapidly around Zenitsu, leaving a trail of lightning.
"Those who recognize my strength are 'good.' Those who don't are 'evil'!"
"Thunder Breathing, Fifth Form: Heat Lightning!"
Kaigaku unleashed scorching lightning, burning Zenitsu's skin.
"How is it?! This blade, enhanced with Blood Demon Art, how does it feel?! It continuously tears flesh as it burns!"
"Thunder Breathing, Sixth Form: Rumble and Flash!"
Kaigaku unleashed countless lightning strikes from his body, each hitting Zenitsu.
"Once hit, the wounds will spread. As a demon, I've surpassed Thunder Breathing! Let my power be etched into your eyes and flesh! I'm different! I'm special!"
Zenitsu, battered and bruised, fell to the ground. He managed to steady himself by using a ledge.
"Does he still have the strength?" Kaigaku's expression tightened.
Zenitsu recalled his past with Kaigaku and their master, a torrent of emotions washing over him.
"I knew Kaigaku despised me, and I disliked him too, but I truly respected you. You worked so hard, dedicating yourself to swordsmanship. I always looked up to you. You were special, to Grandpa and me. You were important."
"But that wasn't enough. You always seemed dissatisfied. The box in your heart, meant for happiness, had a hole. The happiness you received leaked away. If you hadn't noticed and fixed it, you'd never be satisfied."
"I'm sorry, Grandpa. We ended up parting ways. I'm sorry, senpai."
An overwhelming aura erupted from Zenitsu, sending shivers down Kaigaku's spine.
Zenitsu moved with impossible speed, his strike leaving a trail of golden lightning in the form of a massive thunder dragon.
In the next instant, Zenitsu appeared behind Kaigaku, his blade already sheathed. Kaigaku's neck had been severed by Zenitsu's Nichirin Blade.
A dragon's roar echoed as the intense current shattered the golden haori Zenitsu wore.
"It's over, Kaigaku!"
"Thunder Breathing, Seventh Form: Flaming Thunder God!"
