Chapter 144 - Chapter 144: Capturing Wormtail (Part 1)

Wade usually didn't pay special attention to the names above people's heads, as it gave him a sense of detachment, as if he were in a game world.

Therefore, he had grown accustomed to treating the names as part of their hair and ignoring them.

But at that moment, he still glanced at the girl's head.

Luna Lovegood.

It was her, indeed.

This girl didn't quite match the elven beauty of her movie counterpart; her appearance wasn't particularly striking, but her unique demeanor was very noticeable.

Luna, wrapped in a blanket, sat up dreamily, looking at Wade without speaking.

Wade walked over and asked, "You're a first-year, right? It's so late, why aren't you in your dorm sleeping?"

The blonde girl looked at Wade with her protruding eyes, not blinking for a long while, giving a very peculiar impression.

After a moment, she slowly said, "I lost my book. I came to look for it, but I didn't find it... The dorm door is locked."

"Didn't you knock? Or did your roommate not let you in?" Wade asked, frowning.

"What does it matter?"

Luna lay back down, pulling the blanket up to just below her eyes, saying very placidly, "The door will open tomorrow morning anyway."

She was so unconcerned that if Wade intervened, it would seem like meddling.

He asked again, "What's your name, and what book did you lose?"

The little girl looked at him through the darkness and asked, "Are you going to help me find it?"

"If it's no trouble."

She seemed to be thinking about something, then after a moment, she said, "My name is Luna Lovegood. Some people call me Loony. I can't find my History of Magic."

Wade waved his wand, stating clearly, "Accio Luna's History of Magic!"

A book suddenly flew out from between the couch cushions, landing directly in Wade's hand. Wade placed it beside the little girl.

"Wow—"

Luna let out a soft exclamation, and after a few seconds of silence, as if just remembering, she said, "Thank you."

"If you need help, you can find me... I'm Wade Grey, a second-year."

After Wade finished speaking, he picked up his satchel and returned to his dorm.

Although Luna was sleeping alone in the common room that night, Wade wasn't worried about her safety.

The house-elves who cleaned usually worked in the common room at night, and the portraits on the walls, as well as the ghosts moving through the common room, weren't just decorations.

The next morning, when Wade woke up, Luna was no longer on the sofa.

The torrential rain had fallen all night and hadn't stopped by morning. The rain hammered against the windows, streams of water flowing down the glass.

The playing field was a foot deep in water, and Hagrid's animals were all huddled in their shelters.

Students couldn't go play their escape game, and many were pressed against the windows, eagerly staring at the sky, hoping the rain would stop soon.

But the rain continued for several days.

"If only I knew weather charms," Michael, engrossed in the game, said dejectedly. "Then I could stop the rain whenever I wanted."

It was finally the weekend, but being confined to the castle due to the heavy rain was simply too cruel for the game-addicted young wizards.

Michael was still wishing, while Harry and Hermione had already gone to the library to look through magic books on weather charms.

In these few days, Wade's Veritaserum was finally brewed.

The clear, transparent liquid was contained in a crystal vial, looking like pure water.

He took out the Marauder's Map and confirmed Peter Pettigrew's location again.

The rat, as always, was in Ron's dorm.

Sometimes he would go out for a walk, wandering in various corners of the castle. The first time Wade couldn't find him on the map, he worried for a while, thinking Peter might cause some big trouble.

Later, he found out that the person was just bored of staying in the dorm and was running around outside.

Even as a rat, Peter always hid from crowds, and also from students' pet cats and owls; even his walks had to be furtive.

Recently, Ron had been playing the escape game, and Peter often followed him around. It was said that he even helped Ron scratch his opponent once.

At dinner, Ron lavishly praised his rat at the long table, calling it a "meritorious servant."

Wade had once considered whether he could exchange this rat with Ron for a new wand or Galleons. But after much deliberation, he dismissed the idea.

Ron's current wand wasn't broken; although the unicorn hair was exposed, it was still functional. It was true he was short on money, but he might not be willing to sell his rat.

Ron was a person with various flaws but was also stubborn and deeply loyal; perhaps he regarded the rat as family and wouldn't easily let go.

Doing so would only tip off Peter Pettigrew and make him wary. If that fellow escaped school and hid in a Muggle city or the wilderness, Wade truly wouldn't know how to find him.

The operation to capture Peter Pettigrew had to be foolproof.

Perhaps because of the rain, the students had spent the entire day in their dorms and common rooms, and Peter Pettigrew hadn't sneaked out for several days.

Wade put away the map and Veritaserum, took out his Book of Friends, and sent messages to several people in a row, coordinating what needed to be done next, before finally coming out of the Room of Requirement.

The corridor was empty. He walked down to the fifth floor before he saw the Weasley twins, whom he had arranged to meet.

Upon seeing him approach, the twins immediately clapped their hands over their ears and shouted loudly, "Look, Wade!"

They held their ears for a moment, then abruptly released their hands, and a large puff of white smoke drifted towards the ceiling.

George even ingeniously twitched his fingers, making irregular circular smoke rings bubble out like air bubbles in water.

Even with the recent stormy weather, the Gryffindor Quidditch team hadn't stopped training.

To avoid catching colds, they would drink a small sip of Invigoration Draught after training, at the cost of their ears smoking for a while afterward.

Harry was very embarrassed by this, as he had been caught by Colin Creevey in several photos looking like a steam train. But the twins revelled in it, even developing new smoke ring tricks.

"Look, we can do this too!"

Fred covered his ears again for a moment, then released a large cloud of white smoke, blowing into the middle to make it an hollow smoke ring.

George waved his wand, conjured a bubble, put the smoke ring inside, and finally balanced it on his own head, asking, "Doesn't it look like a Pope's coronation?"

"Yes, exactly, hahahahaha..."

Fred burst into laughter.

Wade was also infected by their relaxed and cheerful atmosphere and couldn't help but smile.

After a moment of joking, Wade asked, "Fred, George, have you looked at Ron's dorm with the Marauder's Map?"
