Planting the Seeds of Our Love
The afternoon had begun like any other—a mountain of work was piled up on Kyle’s desk, the detectives of the Investigation and Security Bureau were drooping with post-lunch fatigue, and more eyes in the meeting were glued to the clock than the distributed case documents. Everything changed, however, when the quiet shuffles of the office were broken by the ringing of a phone.
Kyle kept his eyes on the report he was reviewing as he commanded, “Answer it, Paul.”
“Yes, Chief,” Paul mumbled, his eyes bleary as he shuffled over to the landline. “This is the Tezeva Headquarters of the Investigation and Security Bureau. Please state your division and name—oh?”
His voice ticked upward in pitch at hearing the voice on the other side of the line. A sense of rejuvenation flooded through him, and he could feel hope sparking to life inside his chest.
