The intense light had a far more significant impact than the faint glow.
Necrozma, which had been motionless, seemingly dead while absorbing the dim light, trembled slightly under the beam of the powerful flashlight.
Necrozma started moving, beginning to devour the intense light at a much faster rate.
Ash also noticed that the battery display on the powerful flashlight—which could support 200 hours of continuous use when fully charged—was dropping at an extremely rapid pace.
After just ten minutes, the powerful flashlight ran out of battery and went dark.
The high-intensity illumination caused the flashlight bulb to fail immediately.
"Crack."
A sound of breakage came. The extremely durable flashlight, which could have lasted two or three decades, was instantly rendered useless.
Having absorbed a large amount of light, Necrozma now stood up from the ground.
The multi-colored substance in its core lit up, as if Necrozma had opened its eyes.
Ash casually tossed aside the destroyed flashlight. Looking at the standing Necrozma, the system had already scanned Necrozma's status for Ash.
Necrozma: Severely injured...
Looking at the information fed back by the system, Ash was momentarily stunned, then frowned as he looked at Cyllene. "Is this your God of Blinding Light?"
"That's right."
Having received confirmation from Cyllene, Ash looked back at Necrozma, and his frown deepened.
Ash asked Cyllene, puzzled, "It looks injured. What happened? Was it hurt when you subdued it?"
Hearing Ash's words, everyone else was taken aback.
Green was shocked at how Ash knew the Pokémon was injured; from its appearance, it didn't look hurt at all.
Cyllene and the others were astonished, wondering how Ash could possibly tell that Necrozma was injured.
For a moment, Cyllene and the others stammered.
However, under the threat of Lunala by Ash, Cyllene and the others had no choice but to tell Ash and Green a story.
In the distant past, Necrozma emitted light strong enough to illuminate both the Ultra Space and the Alola region.
The people of Ultra Megalopolis, in order to manage this immense energy and use it as they pleased, attempted to control Necrozma.
Necrozma resisted this and lost a part of its body during the conflict with the people. Even after the wound healed, light still leaked from the missing part.
Consequently, Necrozma devoured all the light in the Ultra Space. The people of Ultra Megalopolis then constructed the Ultra Megalopolis Tower, using artificial light to barely suppress Necrozma.
Later, the people learned that to heal Necrozma's injury, the light energy of Solgaleo and Lunala had to be merged, but Solgaleo and Lunala were unwilling to have their energy stolen and thus escaped through the Ultra Wormhole.
The Ultra Recon Squad explores the Ultra Wormholes partly to find a way to heal Necrozma, and partly to search for the Solgaleo and Lunala that escaped back then.
But clearly, after so many years of searching, they had not found Solgaleo and Lunala.
Considering Cosmog's form, it was not difficult to deduce that the Solgaleo and Lunala who escaped had descendants, and the original Solgaleo and Lunala had long since fled elsewhere.
"If it's just an injury, I can try to help."
After hearing Cyllene's story, Ash was deep in thought.
The side quest was to help the Ultra Recon Squad capture Necrozma and help them reclaim the light.
This meant Ash needed to help heal Necrozma.
Otherwise, even if Necrozma were captured, it wouldn't be able to emit light due to its injury, meaning the mission wouldn't be completed.
"Try to help?"
Cyllene and the others were baffled by Ash's words.
"I want to go down and try to treat this guy."
Ash said, pointing to Necrozma in the underground space.
"No way!"
Before Cyllene and the others could say anything, Green spoke first. "It's too dangerous! If you go down, you must take me with you. I'll help you!"
"It's fine. I can handle an injured Pokémon."
"I trust my instincts!"
"Alright then, we'll go down together. You'll be support."
"Deal!"
Cyllene and the others looked speechless. These two were having a back-and-forth; had they asked for their permission?
Seeing that the two had decided to go down together, Cyllene stroked his mustache and said helplessly, "There's no way to enter there, or rather, there is no passage whatsoever to enter it. And besides..."
Before Cyllene could finish speaking, the Gardevoir beside Ash already had one hand on each of Ash's and Green's shoulders. With a Teleport, it took the two of them into the underground space.
Cyllene was left bewildered by the wind. Couldn't these two at least let me finish what I was saying!
But clearly, Ash and Green had no intention of letting Cyllene finish.
Having appeared in the underground space, Ash and Green looked at the two-meter-tall Necrozma. Gardevoir immediately acted as a translator, conveying their goodwill.
However, from the roars Necrozma sent back, Gardevoir discovered helplessly that the opponent had no logical thought process whatsoever.
The Necrozma before them was driven only by an innate craving for light, the instinct to devour all light.
It was only because the other areas were pitch dark, and only the spots reflecting faint light had light for Necrozma to devour, that it didn't take further action even with Ash and Green standing in front of it. It merely roared at Ash and Green and continued absorbing the light.
"Proceed as planned?"
Ash looked at Green and asked.
Green looked at the stationary Necrozma and said somewhat uncertainly, "I don't think so. The opponent doesn't seem to have any intention of fighting."
"Then I'll give it a try."
Ash tossed an exclusive Poké Ball, and Victreebel appeared before them.
With a wave of Ash's hand, Victreebel immediately spat out a large amount of powder, which drifted toward Necrozma.
As the powder slowly floated over, the previously motionless Necrozma suddenly raised its hand.
In an instant, several beams of light shot out, rapidly firing toward Ash and the others.
The speed of the light was incredibly fast. Victreebel was instantly hit and then heavily knocked back, slamming violently into the rock wall.
Ash and Green reacted very quickly, immediately dropping to the ground, narrowly avoiding the light beam, and were not hit.
When they stood up, Necrozma remained in place, roaring at the two of them, but did not make any further attacking moves.
