Chapter 37 - I won't stop myself

Then Don't stop. That was all my mind kept repeating during the ride home.

But I couldn't look at him. Not with how tense he was. His hands gripped the steering wheel so tightly his knuckles had turned white. His jaw clenched, his face hard as stone.

The silence pressed on me, heavy, making it hard to breathe.

"How did you find out where I was?" I finally asked, my voice soft, breaking the stillness.

Without glancing at me, he muttered, "I care about your safety, Alicia. You should know I'm doing everything I can to protect you."

My heart thudded. "You had your men follow me?" I asked, shocked.

"You didn't tell me you received a package," he said, his eyes flicking toward me for a second—just long enough for the weight of his gaze to hit me.

The tension thickened between us, filling the space like a storm waiting to break. I turned away, staring out at the city flashing past.
