The shotgun in his hands might be powerful enough against humans, but facing that terrifying beam of light shooting from the portal, it was no different from a toy.
"Looks like Gotham's gonna need some serious firepower upgrades. Can humans really fight these things?"
As he spoke, Gordon pulled the trigger again at another demon. The buckshot burst out instantly, shattering the head of a charging lesser devil.
"At least one thing's certain—human weapons still work."
These little demons were the weakest of their kind, but also the most numerous. Maybe that's how they survived in hell—through sheer numbers.
None of that mattered to Gordon though. He just needed to know his shotgun could handle these small fries easily enough.
Of course, Gordon was more curious about how this weapon would perform against the bigger threats.
Soon, the beam of light faded away.
The protective energy covering Gordon's body also disappeared completely, but instead of vanishing, it flowed into the shotgun in his hands, making it glow with a faint light.
Looking at a demon trapped motionless in chains, Gordon raised his shotgun and pulled the trigger on the obviously stronger creature.
Bang!
The demon's head exploded instantly, with even more force than when he'd killed the lesser demon before.
"Holy shit... it actually boosted the shotgun's power!"
He'd noticed the energy flowing into his weapon, but hadn't expected his shotgun to be enhanced to this extent.
Using his upgraded weapon, Gordon kept firing at demons pouring from the portal.
Besides the small demons from before, there were also bat-winged creatures about the size of adults.
Under the amplification of that strange energy, the destructive power of his shotgun shells increased dramatically. Every demon Gordon had encountered so far couldn't withstand his enhanced weapon.
Bang! Bang!
A demon wreathed in flames walked out, and the moment it emerged, Gordon's shotgun blast hit it square in the head.
But even with the enhancement, the shotgun couldn't hurt this one. Countless pellets struck the demon's skull, but couldn't even scratch its skin.
The attacked demon turned its head toward Gordon. With just a slight gesture, all the flames around it condensed into football-sized fireballs that flew toward the sergeant.
"Pathetic human, offer your soul to the great Zaratan!"
Facing the barrage of fireballs, Gordon's face went pale. His shotgun fired continuously, trying to intercept the incoming projectiles.
Bruce and Selina abandoned the remaining Grineer and Beast-slayers around them. They had to deal with the sky full of fireballs too.
Seeing the two of them step forward, Marcus swung his Incinerator to block the hell portal while condensing moisture from the air.
"Don't worry, you'll be fine!"
As his voice rang out, the condensed water vapor transformed into water cannons in mid-air, bombarding the area like artillery.
Storm Barrage
Even though it was hellfire, it wasn't impossible to extinguish. Under Marcus's water cannon assault, numerous fireballs collided with the water blasts and were completely snuffed out in clouds of steam.
Areas not covered by the storm barrage were hit by fireballs, igniting the surroundings and turning them into a sea of flames.
Even the remaining Grineer and Beast-slayers were consumed by the fireballs, turning to ash in an instant.
But as they died, everyone could see white light rising from their remains, gathering toward the flame demon.
"Are those their souls?"
Watching the light constantly flowing toward the demons, Marcus thought to himself. The Incinerator in his hand swung out an energy beam, sealing all the light with binding chains.
"I'll leave these demons to you guys. I need to focus everything on sealing this hell portal."
Sea creatures summoned by Hydroid and Resonators summoned by Caliban surrounded the area.
Under their protection, Bruce and the others would definitely be safe.
Now Marcus could focus entirely on the hell portal in front of him. He was very interested in whoever was on the other side of that passage.
Half his body instantly shifted into Harrow form, and Marcus pulled out several special modifications.
"Demons don't like sunlight, right? Let's try Pharaoh's Light first."
The Pharaoh's Light instantly merged with his armor, and the Incinerator in Harrow's hands erupted with cyan-blue flames.
"Ha! Taste the sacred fire of the sun!"
BOOM!!!
The Incinerator slammed hard into the ground, and cyan-blue flames burst from it, transforming into a wave of fire that rushed toward the demons.
Countless chains burning with blue flames shot out from the blast. Whenever a demon was caught, its body would be burned and turned to charcoal.
This wasn't hellfire from the underworld. Facing flames condensed from sunlight itself, most demons could only choose to flee.
Meanwhile, Harvey was leading everyone from the Gotham Police Department toward the scene. Almost all of them carried heavy weapons.
As Gotham cops, they might not be the best officers, but they still remembered their duty—especially when it affected their own safety.
"Everyone, move it! Gordon can't face those things alone!"
Harvey led the charge anxiously. Among the many officers behind him, several quietly sent messages to the gang bosses they worked for.
These bosses all wanted to capture a Beast-slayer alive. Now that they'd found where the creatures were gathering, they could do their bosses a favor.
"Boss Penguin, our police contact sent word. They found where the Beast-slayers are gathered and they're preparing to deal with them."
A bald young man approached Cobblepot with a brief message.
Deal with the Beast-slayers? That wouldn't do. Penguin planned to use these creatures' power to consolidate his control over Gotham.
"Tell everyone to head in that direction and capture a Beast-slayer alive!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Cobblepot looked at the message again and suddenly spoke as if something had occurred to him:
"Wait, get my coat. We're going to take a look ourselves."
The message mentioned Gordon fighting the Beast-slayers there. Maybe this was an opportunity to have Gordon owe him a big favor.
While Cobblepot was making his move, other bosses throughout Gotham were also issuing orders to capture Beast-slayers.
No one could resist this temptation. As long as they obtained the secret of the Beast-slayers, they would become the kings ruling Gotham.
Beneath Gotham's chaotic surface, dark currents were stirring.
And somewhere in the city, a group of people wearing white owl masks sat in a colosseum-like chamber, watching images on a large screen.
"My God, that demon just tore our Talons apart!"
