Chapter 12 - A New Beginning

The date is December 9, 2028. It's been ten years since my last mission. I had lost my limbs and thought that was how my life would be from then on. But against all odds, the doctors managed to reattach them. They said that if I hadn't had the parasite, I would've been dead a long time ago.

I was determined to find Y.K., but the doctors and my sister didn't allow it. I had to relearn how to walk and use my arms. It was exhausting. The doctors told me it would take over three years to even partially recover — but that only pushed me to explore other ways to speed up the process. I began relying more and more on my parasite, learning to control and partially activate it to enhance my physical strength without triggering the full armor.

Thanks to that, I was back on my feet in less than two years.

During this time, I also began researching, seeking an explanation. And once I recovered, I continued. Beyond the sleepless nights full of unanswered questions that only raised more questions, I kept experimenting with the parasite until I managed to control it at full capacity. But the turning point came just a few months ago, through an associate. That associate brought me the answers I had been searching for over a decade — and those answers drove me to act. That person was the reason I set out on my last adventure.

I rode past trees, through sharp turns and winding roads, but I could never shake the sense of being watched. The sound of the engine was the only disturbance in the forest's silence. I was alone, with both lanes to myself if needed, but I kept my guard up.

Finally, a change in scenery.

Ahead of me was a red bridge, and between the trees, I could see a stream of clear, flowing water. I took my eyes off the road for a moment to admire the crystalline river. Then I looked ahead again — and saw a massive man, nearly three meters tall, standing in the middle of the road, charging at me.

He threw a punch — I leaned to the side with the bike, dodging him, and stayed in the Akira pose. I got off the motorcycle and pulled my glasses down to my neck. I didn't need them anymore — they were just an accessory now, since I could partially activate my vision enhancements.

The "man" wore a white robe strapped with several belts at the waist — more belts wrapped around his arms and legs. His extremities were wrapped in white bandages, as was his face. Through them, patches of necrotic skin could be seen. Judging by appearance, he looked like a biological weapon. I didn't know exactly what he was capable of, but I assumed he shared the same weakness as parasites.

I wasn't carrying any heavy artillery, so firearms would've been useless. My best chance was using the parasite.

He attacked again. I dodged. Another punch — and another into the ground — all of which I avoided. He paused, then launched another strike. I dodged again, but as I moved, blades of bone suddenly extended from his arm, trying to stab me. I ducked and leapt back to gain distance.

It seemed I wasn't the only one analyzing movements. He was studying mine as well, trying to improve his attacks. I had to change tactics and go on the offensive. The best strategy was to end the fight as quickly as possible.

He came at me again with a punch. I grabbed his arm, jumped on it, and broke it with an armbar. I landed and struck him in the thigh. He dropped to one knee. He tried to swing at me with the other hand — I caught it and landed an elbow, dislocating it, followed by another elbow to the head. Still gripping his arm, I twisted and tore it off entirely at the elbow. He collapsed.

He lay on the ground, staring at the sky, a massive pool of blood spreading across the asphalt. He didn't have long to live. I turned back toward the motorcycle.

That's when a tentacle grabbed me by the waist and pulled me toward the creature. From the stump of his first arm, a tentacle had emerged, and from the other, a massive bone blade. This was what I wanted to see — if I lowered my guard, he'd take advantage. Turns out the creature was far more intelligent than I expected.

He raised the blade toward me, but at that moment, I heard glass shatter. A truck, honking non-stop, rammed into the beast. It fell into the river, and the truck remained wedged in the destroyed guardrail of the bridge, almost following it into the water. I collapsed onto the road. The truck driver had been shot in the head.

Then my phone rang. I answered and waited.

— Andreas, looks like you've made your move.

I knew that voice. It was Y.K.

— It's been a while.

— Indeed. I'll keep this brief. That biological weapon will come back for you. You won't get rid of it so easily. It was deployed by The Man of High Society to track and immobilize you. Emma is fully aware of the risk of your death. Thats why ten years ago she did the same, only cutting down your limbs.

— Thanks for the tip. It's been a pleasure.

— We'll be meeting face to face very soon.

He hung up. I smashed the phone and tossed it into the river. Then I got on my motorcycle and continued down the road.
