Deadpool's face turned pale in an instant. His eyes widened in disbelief, as if he were searching Mr. Paradox's expression for any sign of a joke.
"Why can't I go back?" Deadpool's voice trembled slightly. Every word seemed forced out through gritted teeth, thick with disbelief and helplessness.
Mr. Paradox spoke slowly, his tone steady and emotionless. "Your world is about to end. That's a fact that cannot be changed."
"What happened to my world? What about my friends?" Deadpool asked, nearly hysterical. The idea of his universe—filled with absurdity, laughter, chaos, and blood—disappearing into silence was incomprehensible. Worse was imagining his friends facing that end alone.
"You have only two choices," Mr. Paradox continued, his voice cold, detached—as though this conversation had nothing to do with him. "You can abandon your timeline and become an agent of the Time Variance Authority, living here permanently. Or, you can return to your timeline, stay with your friends, and face the end together."
The unflinching finality in his words made Deadpool—who always played the fearless fool—feel a chill for the first time in ages.
"That's insane… Why would the entire universe vanish? What the hell happened?" Deadpool muttered. He shook his head repeatedly, unwilling to believe what he was hearing. The merc with a mouth was not ready for this kind of silence.
Mr. Paradox, seeing through his panic, added, "Every timeline has an anchor—an essential focal point. Once that anchor is lost, the timeline becomes unstable and collapses. Think of it like the protagonist in a movie. If the lead disappears, the story can't go on."
Deadpool's mind flashed with images: his friends, his battles, his countless chaotic moments. All of it—vanishing like a forgotten TV show after cancellation.
His expression sharpened with sudden urgency. "Who was the anchor of my world? What happened to them?"
The thought that arose was one he refused to believe. But Mr. Paradox didn't give him the chance to deny it.
"The anchor of your universe was Wolverine—Hugh Jackman," Mr. Paradox said bluntly. "He has exited your timeline. So now, your entire universe is unraveling."
Deadpool stood frozen, trembling. Cold sweat soaked through his suit. It felt like death started at his feet and crawled its way upward. He forced down the rising panic and asked through gritted teeth, "How long do we have until everything ends?"
Mr. Paradox frowned slightly. "Previously, the TVA would simply prune the timeline instantly. But ever since Loki seized control, we've abolished that crude method. By current projections, your timeline has roughly a thousand years left."
He didn't sound pleased. The inefficiency gnawed at him.
Before Loki's interference, he could have erased entire timelines with the press of a button. But now...
Deadpool turned, fists clenched. He was going to warn everyone. They had time—time to fight or at least die on their own terms.
But Mr. Paradox called after him, voice oozing venom. "Are you sure you want to go back and die with your friends?"
Deadpool paused. "What do you mean?"
"Sure, your universe should last another few centuries. But I'm done waiting. Why should I waste my resources watching over a dead-end timeline?" Mr. Paradox growled. "I'm going to use the Time Crusher to expedite the deletion. In three days, your universe will be dust."
His face contorted, powerlust radiating off him like heat. "I'm done being a passive enforcer. I want to be the one who controls everything! In three days, your world and everyone in it will be erased."
Deadpool's fury exploded. He couldn't let someone—no matter how "cosmic" or "official"—dictate the death of his world. With a primal scream, he lunged and punched Mr. Paradox square in the jaw, catching him off guard. As the agent staggered, Deadpool swiped the time tablet from his hand.
His plan was reckless. Insane.
Perfect.
He was going to find alternate Wolverines—versions from other universes—and bring them back to his timeline. If one Wolverine was enough to anchor a timeline, then having more would solve everything.
Deadpool's universe wasn't ending. Not today.
Meanwhile, in an alternate universe, another Deadpool and Wolverine had just arrived—this one from Hell's Kitchen.
"Man, I heard you're already dead in this world," Deadpool muttered, glancing at his companion. "No X-Men, no backup… Just you mutants getting slaughtered left and right. Sucks. I mean, Hell's Kitchen has its issues, but at least it's still standing. What the hell, not even a Hell's Kitchen here? Are we the only ones with that dump?"
Wolverine didn't reply. He had already learned about the tragic fate of this timeline's version of himself. Word on the streets—and the internet—painted a grim picture: an old Wolverine who died a hero, one who gave everything to save others.
Logan gave a slight nod. "Iron Man… He went out strong. Protected the weak to the very end. That's a good way to go."
"Death is a relief for guys like us," Wolverine added quietly. "It's the best ending we can hope for."
Then, with an edge of sadness in his voice, he said, "I want to see my grave."
Deadpool sighed. "Fine, fine. I really want to go back to Hell's Kitchen anyway. I shouldn't have come on this mission. The girls at the bar must be missing me by now."
They followed the sparse clues and soon reached a desolate hill. As they drew closer, the silence was broken by muffled noise.
Deadpool tilted his head. "Wait, someone's here? This place is a graveyard in the middle of nowhere!"
"Probably some young couple getting freaky," he shrugged. "Graveside hookups are weirdly popular these days."
They finally reached the grave—marked by a giant X—but something was wrong.
Soil was being thrown from the inside.
"Holy shit," Deadpool cursed. "Jackman, your grave's pooping!"
"No… someone's digging it up," Logan growled. "What kind of psycho would do that?"
Deadpool narrowed his eyes. "Is that… me?"
In front of them stood another Deadpool—drenched in dirt, holding a shovel, halfway through exhuming the old Wolverine's body.
"Mother fucker—why am I digging your grave?"
