Chapter 230 - Chapter 230: Hell's Kitchen: Vulture and Suspenders

Over at Hell's Kitchen Academy,

Alex Ray had no idea that Mr. Fantastic had so many schemes in mind. If he did, he would've just sneered.

Eat shit.

The people of Hell's Kitchen weren't the kind that Mr. Fantastic could easily poach.

Right now, Alex was in conversation with Professor Adrian Toomes—better known as the Vulture.

"Professor Adrian, it's a pleasure to meet you. Thank you for coming to Hell's Kitchen to teach these kids," Alex said sincerely. He was genuinely grateful to the man in front of him. After all, not many were willing to step into Hell's Kitchen at the beginning.

Even if Professor Toomes had been a villain in other universes, Alex didn't care.

Smart people always had their own ambitions and ideologies. In Alex's view, that was normal.

As long as everything stayed under control, there was no issue. Besides, Hell's Kitchen already had plenty of villains walking its halls.

Alex had never believed in a purely black-and-white world. Most villains had been forced into it or had simply lost control.

In fact, sometimes, Alex felt that the actions of so-called superheroes were even more revolting than those of villains.

Still, he couldn't help but marvel at how many of Spider-Man's adversaries were brilliant intellectuals. In his school, nearly all of the professors were once Spider-Man's enemies.

He wondered if the Peter Parker of this universe would end up with even more villains surrounding him in the future—but Alex didn't particularly care. If he wanted, he could be this universe's Spider-Man himself.

As for the local Peter? Alex figured he'd let him train for another two and a half years before making his debut.

Let the kid focus on rap, singing, dancing, and basketball for now. From today onward, they'd call him "Suspender-Man."

Professor Adrian, hearing Alex's words, immediately waved his hands, visibly moved.

"No, no, Mr. Ray, you're far too kind," Toomes replied earnestly. "In fact, I should be the one thanking you.

If you and the former principal, Mr. Wilson Fisk, hadn't been willing to take me in and offer this invaluable opportunity, I wouldn't have been able to continue my research or pursue my dream.

And to be honest, teaching here has been incredibly meaningful and fulfilling for me."

At this moment, Adrian Toomes was full of gratitude.

He knew very well that without the generous help of Alex Ray and Wilson Fisk, he might've fallen into ruin—his dream unfinished, his name forgotten.

That dream? To build a pair of wings and soar freely through the sky.

It had been etched into his heart for decades, but lack of funding and resources had always stood in the way.

Recalling his past ordeals, Adrian still shuddered.

He'd once been swindled by a crooked businessman, nearly framed and thrown in prison.

During that dark time, he had fallen into an abyss of despair, completely unsure if he'd ever rise again.

But just when he was about to give up, Wilson Fisk extended a hand—and pulled him out of that pit.

Now, Professor Toomes had made a home for himself in Hell's Kitchen, embarking on a new life as an educator.

He was thankful every day that he'd chosen to come here. At first, he'd been hesitant—Hell's Kitchen's reputation was legendarily bad. But compared to rotting in a prison cell, trying his luck here had seemed like the better option.

And he had chosen right.

Here, not only was he respected and loved by students, but his lifelong dream was being supported and nurtured.

The other professors at the academy were exceptional. Each possessed unique powers and incredible knowledge. Whether it was Professor Beast, a mutant genius with a staggering seven doctorates, or Dr. Otto Octavius with his mechanical tentacles—they were all on a level even Adrian aspired to reach.

And unlike the judgment he feared, these professors embraced his ideas—often with even wilder imaginations than his own.

Among this league of extraordinary minds, Adrian's dream of flight didn't seem so impossible anymore.

Now, he was working on a new pair of wings—ones that would be cheaper, safer, and more practical.

He hoped his research would one day allow everyday people to experience the thrill of flight.

At the same time, he wished to bring in economic returns for the Hell's Kitchen Company and help it continue to grow.

For Adrian, this place was no longer just a job. It was home.

Then Alex Ray heard the familiar sound in his mind:

"Congratulations, host. Adrian Toomes has become your friend."

"Congratulations, host. Adrian Toomes…"

"Congratulations, host. Adrian Toomes' friendship level has reached five stars."

Alex looked at the brilliant mind before him. A true family member—just one step away.

Of course, Alex had already decided to give Toomes a Devil Fruit.

Even if the man hadn't made some grand accomplishment, he'd put in the effort. He was one of the first professors to join the academy—it was only right that Alex reward him with this.

That way, he could finally achieve real flight.

With that thought, Alex turned serious and asked, "Professor Toomes… have you ever wanted to truly fly through the sky?"

Magneto and Vulture, who had been watching from the side, both turned their heads sharply at that.

"What do you mean by that?" their expressions seemed to ask.

Alex met their puzzled gazes and explained calmly, "You've probably heard—I possess some special items capable of granting superpowers."

Magneto's eyes lit up with interest. He'd long wondered why so many mutants gathered in Hell's Kitchen. Now it made sense—it was all thanks to Alex Ray.

This kid had more secrets than he let on.

Magneto silently nodded, increasingly convinced that joining the academy had been the right call.

Adrian, sharp as ever, quickly picked up on the implication. Trembling slightly, he asked, "You don't mean…"

Alex didn't play coy. He took out a Devil Fruit and placed it in front of Toomes.

"This is a Devil Fruit. Wilson Fisk ate one and gained his current abilities."

"This one is the Bird-Bird Fruit, Vulture Model. Once you eat it, you'll gain the ability to transform into a vulture and fly freely in the sky. Of course, I'll respect your decision, whether you choose to eat it or not."

Professor Toomes stared at the fruit in awe, then picked it up with trembling hands.

Without hesitation, he began to eat it.

The taste was vile—like chewing rotten sewage—but that didn't matter.

The dream was worth the suffering.

Compared to losing that dream, this pain was nothing.

Before long, he had devoured the entire fruit.

Closing his eyes, he felt the power surging through his body.

And then, a humanoid vulture emerged before Alex Ray and Magneto.

Wings spread wide, feathers ruffling with newfound life—Professor Adrian Toomes had become something new.

Without another word, he rushed out of the office and took to the skies, laughter echoing behind him.

Then came another system notification:

"Congratulations, host. Adrian Toomes' friendship level has reached maximum."

"The host currently has 24/25 family members. The system will update once one more joins. Please keep up the good work, host."
