"Adam," Natalia greeted, surprised but radiant as she stepped into the doorway of her bakery. "I didn't expect you so early. I'm guessing you missed my coffee."
She smiled sweetly and wrapped her arms around his neck, the familiarity of it almost comforting—almost.
"Yeah," he replied, forcing a faint smile as he hugged her back. "I missed you too."
But the words tasted bitter on his tongue. Like guilt. Like something that should've stayed buried.
She pulled back slightly, resting her hands on his chest. "You're still as sweet as I remember."
There was a pause.
"Sofia filed for divorce," Adam said suddenly, voice flat, like he was reciting something from memory.
Natalia blinked—startled, but only for a second. She masked her rising excitement with a softened expression and stepped back slowly, as though wounded by the news.
"Oh... Adam, I'm so sorry," she said, lowering her gaze. "That must be... hard."
