Chapter 42 - Chapter 42: The Lightkeeper’s Calling

The winds between the worlds grew calm as Amandon's form stood before her, his features shifting between light and shadow. Hikari's question still lingered in the air—soft yet filled with longing.

"Who am I?" she whispered again, this time not out of confusion, but out of the deep void she felt in her soul.

Amandon smiled gently, his voice resonating across the endless skies.

"You are not just Hikari Takahashi, the daughter of Kazuki, nor are you merely the girl reborn from sorrow. You are one of five chosen souls, reborn into this world from Earth—banished children of a forgotten age."

The skies parted, revealing a vision beyond imagination.

In the distant past, a council of gods once lived on Earth, walking among humanity. They were revered, worshipped, and feared. They brought peace, chaos, laws, and miracles. But as human civilization advanced, they were forgotten. Cast aside by a world that no longer needed prayers, no longer feared the skies.

The gods—now called Reverents—were exiled from Earth and fled to a new world, an untouched land of possibility. Here they forged mountains, rivers, oceans, and life itself. But without humanity's praise, their powers weakened, and their purpose faded.

"So they created this world," Amandon continued, "in hopes that it would one day become another Earth, filled with people who would remember their creators."

He gestured with a sweep of his hand, revealing a glowing tapestry of five lights, scattered across distant lands.

"You are not alone. There are others like you. Four more, born from Earth's forgotten souls. Each has faced their own trials, their own darkness and light."

"They are scattered, each walking their own path. But soon, your destinies must converge. Together, you five will become the Lightbearers of this world—the key models who will shape this land into the world the Reverents dreamed of."

Hikari's heart pounded.

"You want me to guide them?"

Amandon nodded slowly.

"Yes. As the Lightkeeper, you will lead them in the ways of balance. Teach them not only to seek light, but to understand darkness. Only by embracing both will they create a world worth living in."

He stepped closer, his voice soft but firm.

"This world lacks laws, lacks peace, lacks understanding of what it means to worship or to rule. People struggle in chaos, fearing shadows but blinded by false light. The Reverents, though gods, are barely mentioned in their prayers. Their dreams of a peaceful world are fading."

Hikari lowered her gaze, the weight of this destiny pressing down on her.

"Why me? I've been lost my whole life."

"Because those who have been lost understand the way forward," Amandon said gently. "You know the pain of rejection and the strength of perseverance. That is what this world needs."

The skies trembled, and the visions of the four others grew clearer. Their voices, faint and distant, reached out to her heart.

They too were only fifteen—young, uncertain, and burdened with expectations. Yet their struggles had shaped them into the heroes they were meant to be.

"You will find them," Amandon said. "Your journeys will collide, your fates entwined. You must help them face their darkness, as they will help you face yours."

Hikari clenched her fists, her resolve hardening like steel.

"Then where do I begin?"

Amandon smiled, the light of stars glimmering in his gaze.

"Begin by walking your own path. The rest will follow."

The wind surged, and the vision began to fade.

"Wait!" she called out. "Will I ever return here?"

Amandon's voice echoed one last time, soft as a prayer.

"When your heart seeks answers, look to the sky. I will always be there, between the light and the shadows."

The clouds dissolved, and the world of the temple rushed back to her senses.

She gasped awake, finding herself kneeling before the statue of Amandon, her father resting peacefully nearby, his breathing steady.

But Hikari was no longer the same.

In her heart, the call of destiny burned bright.
