Chapter 3 - Episode 2: The Hunter and The Beast

"Auras are something native to beings of great power, only three kinds of beings could ever wield them, Demons, brutish residents of another realm stuffed with suffering, dragons gilded beasts decent from divine origin, their winds reminiscent of angels in legend, and those in between, the Hybrids, somewhere in between."

I nervously raised my hand, curious about each and every detail, my heart heavier with the idea that I could never fit into any of these groups

"And what about the blessed?"

My teacher spun around with an excited expression only for it to fall apart as she laid eyes on me.

"Well!... oh"

"It depends on what they were blessed for, after all, why give an aura to someone who is destined to never need it?"

———————————-/———————/————

The present:

"An aura? You really think I have an aura—"

"Silence!"

She barks at me, I had forgotten exactly who I was being spoken to by.

"S-sorry it's just, well you know auras are pretty important and—"

Her toe raises and presses into my lip, the talon muffling my speech.

"Enough of the—excitement. It's no wonder I've never seen a human be blessed."

"Your... aura, it is blessed I assure you, although certainly not by my own."

I gently heave the talon out from my mouth, a little surprised I was capable to even do that, before I speak again.

"So like what's it say? Am I destined to unite humans and dragons? Close off the demon realm? Get an average dick size?"

"Wha-what?!"

Her eyes flicker with an uncharacteristically human emotion, pure confusion.

"What—what do you humans think blessings are? Some sort of absolute wish?!"

I find myself tucked under one of her massive talons, a slight adjustment and my ribs would be put at equal distance as my lungs to my heart.

"W-well y-you know fire dragons usually never travel outside of their territory so—"

"What are you even saying? We travel far more than the ice or lightning—wait where did you even get this info?"

I slowly reach into my satchel before holding up my encyclopedia to her tentatively.

...

"Are you expecting me to flip those ant sized pages? Perhaps I should impale a finger of yours on my claw so I may indulge in this tome you show me.

Oh yea, dragon... this is probably the equivalent of asking a cook to pick off the parasites in food.

"Can you get off of—"

"No!"

"Ok ok..."

As I reading out of the encyclopedia, her eyes flicker with intrigue, then annoyance, then a rage followed by smoke billowing out her nostrils, to an audible groan once I reach the fire dragon section.

"What is this nonsense about "taming" and offering tribute to us? A human couldn't even pierce my eye with their sharpest spear!"

I gulp, trying to avoid getting my existence stuffed into an urn.

"W-well I more just focus on the tribute part to be polite...?"

...

For the love of all that's bloody please go for it...

"Bah! Bahahaha!"

Well, that's not burning my face off so...

"Polite? Of course you're polite, you're a human, a mere human even with that aura about you."

She leans in to sniff me again, my hair being pulled and messed about by the force of the zephyr. Repeating this a few times.

I wonder...

"Does that uh smell good to you? Miss?"

Suddenly her wings flap downwards gusting herself yards away from me, the wind slashing small cuts into my flesh, it hurt but it didn't hurt nearly enough to outdo my desire to continue this conversation, it is my lifeblood after all.

As I held myself up by the arms my eyes fail me, blurred for a moment... oh yea gust of super sharp wind, I'm lucky I can even see at all really. Why did she jump back I wonder?

My eyes slowly clear as I see them, claw picking at their teeth in sage-like thought, steam slipping through the cracks of their teeth, as if they did not just gust themselves away from me, I'm about to speak my mind before I realize an important detail, my ears aren't even ringing, by all means such a mighty gust would have popped my eardrums but mine are... intact!

I must really be blessed to have such strong eardrums.

Splat splat!

Huh? What's that noise?

As I focus back into reality, I notice a foreboding sign, a pool of wine converging between a few laden stone tiles, the wine dripping from the fire dragons nose, bleeding.

"D-dragons can bleed?!"

I find myself prostrating at her feet.

"Sorry! I didn't mean to fluster you so badly, I-if you wanna sniff me more I'll be quiet this time—"

"S-shush! Silence! Stop speaking!"

She spits at me, a mix of frustration and something else pooled in her expression.

"I am not flustered how dare you presume a dragon of my renown could be flustered by human speech."

She touches the blood trickling down her scales before flicking it away into my hair, I reflexively lick some of it as it flows down onto my face, the taste is indescribable, but reminiscent of overripe mangos and glass.

It's just as I dreamed it would it be!

On that day, she peered down at me and asked "who are you?"

And I knew exactly what to say.

"My name is Dip, and my dream is to unite dragons and humanity together!"
