The dam cracked with a final, thunderous groan.
Then—collapse.
A wall of ancient stone shattered and fell, unleashing the river it had imprisoned for generations. A tidal surge burst forward, ripping through the valley with roaring fury. The freed water surged like a beast long chained, rushing toward the lowlands at terrifying speed.
But Arendelle would not fall today.
Earlier, before the battle began, Ethan had stood apart from the others—watching the dam, eyes narrowed with concern. He turned to Kristoff, who was prepping climbing ropes and gear nearby with Olaf.
"If this dam goes down," Ethan had said, "the water's going to flood the fjord fast."
Kristoff blinked. "Then Arendelle—"
"Will drown," Ethan finished. "Unless they're warned."
Kristoff's face hardened. "How much time?"
"Not much," Ethan replied. "You need to take the fastest path back. Tell them to evacuate. Go by water. It's risky, but faster."
Olaf saluted. "We're on it!"
Kristoff whistled to Sven, and the loyal reindeer galloped up the hill, sleigh in tow. Within minutes, the trio was racing down the mountain path toward the Northuldra river.
Now, as the dam burst and the surge began, Kristoff, Sven, and Olaf had already reached the sea channel that curved back toward Arendelle. The sleigh had been ditched—only a small boat remained, waiting by the shore.
"I hope this floats," Olaf said nervously, climbing in.
Sven grunted, clearly unimpressed with the size.
Kristoff jumped aboard, gripping the oars with determination. "Let's go. Hang on tight!"
They paddled furiously.
Luckily, the river current favored them. The boat shot forward like an arrow, cutting across bends and fjord passages at breakneck speed.
Kristoff's arms burned. The cold wind bit at their faces.
But they could see it now.
Arendelle—shimmering in the snowy light, peaceful and unaware.
"We're almost there!" Kristoff shouted.
In the castle square, townspeople were busy shoveling snow and tending to winter stores, unaware of the danger approaching. A few children played by the docks, tossing snowballs and laughing.
Then a loud horn echoed across the harbor.
Kristoff stood at the bow of the boat, waving frantically. "EVACUATE! THE DAM IS BREAKING!"
People paused.
Then panic set in.
"Move!" he shouted, leaping from the boat as soon as it touched dock. "Everyone, head to higher ground! The fjord's going to flood!"
"Kristoff?" Kai blinked. "What's going on?"
"JUST GO!" Olaf cried. "Don't worry! Elsa, Anna, and Ethan are handling it, but we've got to get out NOW!"
With Sven helping push carriages, Kristoff and the guards led the evacuation effort. Families grabbed essentials and children. Boats launched for safer cliffs. Castle servants ushered citizens into the old hillside tunnels.
Kristoff didn't rest—not until every soul had moved.
And then—
The roar came.
The ground trembled. The air thickened with mist.
And over the hills, they saw it.
The water.
A raging wave stormed through the fjord toward the city.
But Arendelle… was empty.
The river crashed into the docks, smashed past the gates, and swept into the lower city streets. The castle groaned as water licked its walls.
But no lives were lost.
Because they had been warned.
Back at the ruins of the dam, Elsa stood at the edge of the cliff, gazing out over the freed waters. The valley below shimmered with new life. Rivers flowed through what had once been dry, wounded land. Trees whispered again.
Anna sat beside Ethan, his head on her shoulder, resting.
"They made it," Elsa said quietly, sensing the peace in the air.
"I know," Anna whispered. "They're safe."
A gentle breeze carried scents of pine and snowmelt. No more cursed air. No more shadow.
The dam was gone. But in its place, balance had returned.
That evening, as the sun dipped beneath the mountains, the people of Arendelle gathered on the cliffs overlooking the fjord. Families huddled in blankets. Children pointed toward the distant sparkle of the castle, now partly flooded but still standing.
Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven stood with the guards, watching the horizon.
Then—figures appeared.
Elsa.
Anna.
And Ethan.
Riding the Nokk across the shallow waters, the three heroes returned, cloaked in mist and light.
A cheer erupted from the crowd.
Olaf jumped up and down. "They're okay! THEY'RE OKAY!"
Kristoff exhaled with a laugh, eyes watering.
Elsa dismounted gracefully. Anna helped Ethan off, though he limped, grinning sheepishly at the applause.
"I told you," he muttered. "Not dead."
Anna elbowed him playfully. "Barely."
Kai stepped forward. "Your Majesty, the people are safe. The city… held."
Anna's throat tightened, but she smiled.
"We lost stone," she said, "but saved lives."
And for the first time in a long while, no one felt afraid.
That night, as the stars blanketed the sky, fires were lit, songs were sung, and peace returned to the north.
Elsa stood on a hill overlooking the river, watching it carve new paths through the land. The spirits were calm. The forest, alive.
Anna approached, arms folded, cloak around her shoulders.
"We did it," she said.
Elsa nodded. "No more lies. No more chains."
Anna looked at her. "Will you stay?"
Elsa smiled, turning to face her sister. "I think I'm right where I'm meant to be."
Behind them, Ethan leaned against a tree, chuckling. "You two always get the last word."
Olaf peeked out from behind him. "Not always! Sometimes I do—like now! See? Last word!"
They all laughed.
And as the river flowed beneath the moonlight, Arendelle breathed freely again.
