The maids bustled around Liliette as she sat before a full-length mirror, selecting a coat to complement her dress. One of them signed to Buttercup.
‘She will look splendid in anything, but the more extravagant, the better. What do you think Her Ladyship prefers, Buttercup?’
Liliette had recently begun learning sign language, but she wasn’t yet skilled enough to keep up with the conversation. Noticing her confusion, Buttercup, cheerful as always, placed a chair behind her and climbed onto it.
“My lady, which one do you like? Everyone’s suggesting blue, but I think something that matches your hair would be perfect. It will look gorgeous against the snow today!”
Liliette gave her an awkward smile. “Everything looks fine to me. Just pick something suitable.”
