Hailey pouted, her voice soft with hurt. "I would never poison you, Kaira. You're still my sister, no matter our differences—even if we aren't related by blood."
She paused, her fingers slipping and letting the box of chocolates fall to the table with a dull thud.
"Why would you think I'd kill you? Do you really think that little of me?"
Kaira frowned, her eyes narrowing in suspicion. She couldn't tell if this was genuine remorse or just another act in Hailey's growing list of performances.
"Not at all," Kaira replied coolly. "Don't mind me. I just need to be cautious around you. You think I killed your son, remember?"
