Chapter 3 - Surpassing limits.

The first ball came out sudden and fast, Javil was almost unprepared, but he managed to dodge it, stepping to the side. Next came another, then another and it started to get fast, but by some dumb luck he managed to dodge them like in that one game in gym back in school.

Where he used his small nimble frame to dodge over 20 balls being thrown at him as he had ran from one side of the gym to the other. Though he shoved the memory aside to focus, and soon they stopped and another one booted up. "Two of them?!" He exclaimed, gritting his teeth with determination. "Fuck this." He muttered and leaned down, ready for anything.

The boy didn't have any parkour or special skills so he was stuck to keeping his feet on the ground at all times and suddenly it began, his energy was running low, he was finding his throat in cold, sharp agony. He knew he would be coughing for a while with the taste of blood after this, but he didn't care, he was going to prove himself.

He ducked sideways, leaned back, fell a couple times but rolled to evade, for a person who didn't exercise, he was durable so falling over didn't really hurt him much if at all, moreless just a slight annoyance, finally level two ended and level 3 started and the balls started coming out way faster, and halfway through, finally, when he couldn't take it anymore, SMACK! a ball hit him right in the face and he fell to the ground and it all stopped.

He sighed and saw the soldier writing something down, and the other students whispering as he was gasping for air, "did you see that!" "Yeah, he's nimble, but there's always someone better, I wonder who'll get the top score." Were some of the whispers that were heard.

Javil moved back to the line, still sweating a lot and Caster handed him a flask. "Here, it'll restore your stamina, and hydrate you, my family dabbles in alchemy, so, I have plenty of healing and boosting items." Caster said as Javil sniffed it and tested it.

[Stamina 1/20 >> 20/20]

[Your stamina has been increased]

[Congratulations on not sucking, novice, keep it up.]

"Hey caster do you see this?" Javil asked, pointing at it. "See what?" Caster replied, looking at the far wall then back at Javil, not seeing what Javil was seeing. "Oh nothing." The boy replied, hand on his chin. So only I can see it, wait, did it just insult and compliment me at the same time? Javil thought, waving the screen away. So, I have stats then, how do I see my stats. As he thought this another window popped up.

[Name: Javil Raymond]

So this thing follows my thoughts. He thought to himself. Caster tapped him on the shoulder urgently. "Hey, uh, stop spacing out we're moving onto the next test." Javile rubbed the back of his head with an awkward chuckle. "Yeah sorry, I was so lost in my thoughts that everything around me just vanished."

To this Caster just shook his head and patted Javil on the backed to get him moving. The boy got the message and started walking. "Right, we're going to do these in the same order as the first test." The soldier explained. "Here you've gotta test your strength." The guard said and Javi stepped up to the machine.

Javi pulled back, gathered up pure rage from wherever he could find it, and punched the dome with as much might as he could muster, scoring a five. Of course this made his knuckles hurt like hell but he ignored the pain focusing on the screen that popped up in front of him as he headed back into the line.

[Quest 2/3 complete]

[Using the power of fury, you failed to do much damage with those weak arms of yours, but you exceeded your current power.]

[Strength 5]

[Daily quest obtained: Lift as much as you can for fifteen minutes]

[Reward: 10xp]

He ignored the insults this time, though he was surprised the punch resulted in a permanent increase considering for a normal person it'd only be temporary. Everyone went through the test, of course there were sime, or many that could used their attributes to enhance their power.

He dismissed the screen, he couldn't really pay much attention to the last line since he couldn't do much about it right now. For now he was just focusing on completing the current quest at hand and just all in all getting through the training.

Though one person caught his attention. Not because of beauty or anything, mainly because he never found people visually attractive or unattractive. Moreless, his curiosity and intrigue had been piqued, namely by her emotionless nonchalant attitude about this despite displaying impressive scores.

"Hey Caster, you seem pretty connected, who is that." Javil asked. "Oh her? Her name is Kia, Kia Vermond I think is her last name, why, someone got a cruush?" Caster teased only to recieve a playful punch. "No! You weirdo, I'm just, intrigued." Javil exclaimed incredulously, feigning offense. "Seriously though, people call her the ice queen because she's so cold to people, hell, she hardly talks to anyone, but don't let it fool you, if she's anything like her family, she's very powerful."

Javil nodded along to what caster was saying as he looked at her, shrugging and waited for the strength test to come to an end and for the third to start. "Next! Endurance training! You will have a force pressing against you, the longer you can stay standing, the higher the score, let's begin." Javil stepped into some sort of ring on the ground, watching the circle light up and suddenly he felt a force pulling him down, but he held strong.

The force was increasing bit by bit as he stood there, eventually he started gritting his teeth and growled a little to himself, standing his ground, until eventually he dropped to a knee, but technically he was still standing so the guard didn't call it yet. His muscles were screaming at him to just drop to the ground, and he almost gave in just too soon. Though, eventually it was too much for him and his body gave out.

[Whether it was dumb luck, sheer determination, or the fact your durability is the only thing you have going for you, you've passed your final limit.]

[Durability: 13]

[Quest surpass your limits 3/3 complete]

[Attribute processing]

[Secret Quest complete: Surpass all of your limits.]

[Reward: 1 free stat point.]

[Secret reward: 20xp]

Insults aside, secret reward? Why did I gain a secondary reward? Did I do better than it expected? Or was it just random chance? Javil asked himself, hand on his chin again as he pondered this whole system thing, as this happened another screen had popped up.

[Congratulations novice, you've earned your first attribute: Shadow Crawler]
