Chapter 2 - A friend?

Javil got up slowly rubbing his eyes, looking around he didn't see the orb anywhere. "Must have dreamt " I uttered looking around, talking to myself was a bad habit I had. Suddenly there was an even louder knock, it almost sounded like the door would cave in. "Damn backliners."

I opened the door and put on a fake smile to the soldier who was holding a clipboard, "good morning sir!" I exclaimed, though the energetic greeting was forced and, at least to me, felt awkward. "Get your stuff and go.' He said before turning away to go to a bus that was parked in a road. Sighing I packed up thoroughly looking for the orb, wondering where it went, or if it was a product of my imagination.

I then headed out to the dirty, green painted bus, some of the other people in the bus were chattering to one another and I sighed, pulling my hood over my head like usual, pulling out my phone, pulling on my headphones and playing my music, it might be surprising they still had things like this but they did, although there wasn't much of it these days, so all they really had in the way of things like that were what they had in the past.

Javil sighed lightly to himself, as he just watched the scenery as the military bus moved along, stopping here and there before finally heading to the BFA, there were several of course, all owned by the global military, all with one goal in mind, fight against beasts. Each one was ranked by both prestige and amount of promising candidates it produced each year.

Javil felt a tap on his shoulder, sighing in annoyance he looked at the most recent pick up. "What do you want?" He asked in an irritated tone. Normally he didn't mind interacting with people, he enjoyed attention in fact, but at the same time, he was a loner, introvert and didn't like talking to random people, especially when he was in the middle of something, in this case, listening to music.

After all, what kind of awkward weirdo randomly goes up to random people and starts talking to them. At least this was his thought so he never actively went up to anyone, but he wasn't going to be rude and ignore someone trying to talk to him."Hey man! My names Caster and I have a fire attribute, what about you?" The guy asked.

"Javil, my only special talent is being forgetful and lazy." Javil said, moreless as something negative, at least for the poor memory part, he wished he had a better memory, hell even a better mental capacity for imagination and thought but he didn't know how to really make it better.

Elemental abilities were rare and considered to be very powerful, with lightning outstanding all of the core elements combined. Of course sheer strength could easily make up for this weakness so that didn't really mean these kinds of abilities were sought after.

The young boy sitting by Javil frowned, "That must suck, being drafted with no power, between you and me though, I heard they hand out a book they wrote up for controlling an ability to those who don't have one, although it's weak. They don't make anyone take it, it's just an offer." Caster told the boy, placing his arm around him like they were best pals.

Javil's instincts, or I guess senses for if he'll like someone or not didn't tell him this guy was bad or anything so he didn't mind, the company was nice. "Stick with me and you'll be just fine." Caster continued and Javil gave a small smile. "Only time will tell." Javil replied as suddenly a panal opened in the seats and some sort of device was locked around all the student's wrists.

Javil immediately tried ripping it off to no avail. "What is this thing?! Get it off me?!" He exclaimed. Caster chuckled. "These are devices are given by the military, they measure our ability levels, heartbeat, location, etcetera. It's nothing bad. Best part is you can send messages to your buddies.

Though, I don't recommend doing that, they could be recorded, so if you wanna keep things between you and whoever, it's better to talk in person. Anyway, that's all the tips I have for ya, and if you wanna know how I know these things, well, let me just say my family is well connected." Caster explained in what statted to sound like a monotone voice to Javil.

"So they're watching us, got it." Javil remarked with annoyance as he looked back out the window, but somehow all of a sudden they were within base walls even though there hadn't been one in sight moments ago.

"Shouldn't be surprised that there's a teleportation user." Javil muttered to himself, he didn't know why they felt the need to keep the location of their academy a secret. Even though he was curious, he didn't bother asking questions, someone told him these guards weren't going to talk.

The bus finally stopped outside of a large room. "Everyone head inside and the assessments will begin." One of the guards stated and almost immediately everyone got up and began filing out of the bus in orderly fashion, leaving Javil a bit shocked, though, he figured they were all probably intimidated by the militants.

"Good, everyone's accounted for." Said the guard inside what looked like a large training hall. There was equipment a poor person could only dream of, a training dummy of sorts, one of those things that if punched would give a score, treadmills, a ring that looked like it was for fighting. Everything anyone would need to train and test their strength.

Javil was actually in awe and once again wished he could go somewhere with his life, but like always, didn't know how, and with no way to learn how or be able to, didn't bother. "First test! Agility! Balls will be shot at you from a panel, all you need to do is dodge them! First up, Javil!" A guard ordered, as Javil started moving, what looked like a screen popped up in his face.

[Quest recieved: Show them what you've got]

[Exceed your limits, don't wanna look like a wimp in front of everyone do you?]

[Quest completion reward: First Attribute]

[Secret Quest: ???]

Javil froze for a moment, confused, looking around wondering if anyone else could see this, seeing no one reacted, except to him pausing, he was left even more confused. He took a few seconds before he managed to close the screen. Sighing once more, he stepped up to the platform, and immediately the test got started.
